No 3.5 tones van can take 1.4 tones. A vito with a driver, full tank of fuel and work gear weight 2.2tones empty for example. But it a 2.8 3tones or 3.2 tones chasy. 2.2+ 1.4= 3.6 tones. Obviously he did it in a larger vehicle that weighs more than a viro. So.... Overweight. So yes, that comment is right, no van can take that. Maybe if you get a small van such as a Berlingo, modify it and up plate it to 3.5 tones then maybe. But i don't think that is possible in these vans, no idea. So yes you can put 1.4 tonnes on it and it will go down the road. But it's illegal. You also forgot to take in to account, insurance, accountant fees, CX, maintenance, and money a side to replace the vehicle when it's time.... So you took home..... £100 My point is man, stuff you put on the internet make sure it's right. Because if you can't do basics do basic things it makes you look incompetent. People in the industry know and can read through what you say and get the truth. Some business do everything right, then they won't want to work with you and these are the business you want to work with. Just keep going forward man. You just don't calculate properly. But i believe you £360 a day.

He's got no idea. Running a vehicle as an owner driver and a business is the exact same thing, you need to profit as much as possible in the shortest time. Regardless who's coming back, the vehicle is still coming back empty 🤣🤣 Now he needs to pay his driver extra time for that extra collection and delivery.

Completely agree. Also at the end of the day, its down to the shipper. Some cheap drivers may do cheap jobs and some expensive drivers do cheap jobs. I can't say ive never backload rated myself. If im desperate to get home (ie, its Friday 2pm and I'm more than 50 miles from home) then I'll happily go low. But also many times I've gone over the rate and won the job, usually when the shipper knows me and knows I do a good job. Never blame the driver for prices, thats always down to the shipper.

Hi, that is precisely how transport works, it's your business and you can run it as you please. I do however disagree saying that the apps are for backloads only. Plenty use apps as primary business. I do agree starting in the morning on cheep money is not a good way to operate.

I agree that there are occasions when bad feedback is given and it's unfair or unjust. When I was first starting on CX I'd find myself going out of my way to do things which were sometimes unreasonable by shippers just to avoid potentially getting bad feedback. As far as I'm aware you cannot appeal bad feedback, only complaints. This seems a flaw with CX and something that should be raised with them. As others have stated I used to be a lot more lenient when it came to waiting for jobs to be allocated to me but not so much now. If I accept another job, I will do my best to cancel other bids but sometimes forget or don't have time. I have had people ring me up only for me to explain that I'm on another job and so far they've all been polite. I guess I've been lucky.

shippers keep you on the hook while they try and get a cheaper price.....and you are supposed to just sit there and not bid on any work. This is a deliberate policy to suppress rates

I agree with you that jobs should not be allocated without a phone call (unless accompanied by a requirement to manually "Accept" the job). However, I'd also say that I routinely cancel all my outstanding bids every time when I am allocated a job, to avoid precisely the situation you seem to have faced. I thought Pete's recent video on what to do when a shipper calls you and asks you to wait, and keep yourself available, whilst they call their customer was really interesting. I tend to be "soft" and do it, but that has got to change! I guess the standard response needs to be - "sorry, but I have other bids in at the moment so cannot guarantee my availability later on".

Hi mate I run a 18 ton lorry on the Cx. Unfortunately I’m going to give it up and go back to my day job. For haulage and for 44 ton work it’s less work on their and more competition so difficult to get good jobs as shippers put work on the cx which basically are the middle man and reduce your profits highly. Pls remember also operators licence is a long and pricey process. Your looking around 400 a month to park just one lorry. I’m currently paying my transport manager 350 and tax and road tax adds up so in a month without even working your looking around 850 costs without even running your lorry. for me it doesn’t make sense to run lorries especially when people have contracts and when coming back they gets loads are stupid prices which I can’t compete on. Average payment is around 2.25 to 2.50 per mile amd 44 ton you get up to £3 but nothing more than that. Plus less jobs with 44 tons so mileage can be an issue which is your main cost and generally you need to drive out to find jobs. And yes mate payment is a minimum of 30 days average is 60 days. Nothing shorter than that unfortunately which is silly because a full tank is around 750 now and you’ll fill up twice a week. So around 6,000 in fuel before you get paid and some jobs are 60 days so be careful. My plan is to sell my lorry buy 2 vans and work of the cx most likely. Costs are much lower and a drivers wage is quite low so that’s the best way to be profitable I’m my opinin. Hope that helps my friend
