I have the V 3 version fitted to a PJ Ranger, towing a 1270 GTM van. 10" brakes , 12 MTH old brake kit and bearings. drum are older. They seem to work. But if on manual mode on 10 should the brakes come on quickly on a gravel road @15kph or slow to pull up?

Hi REDARC, I have a 40A kings charger in my setup in the rear drawer system and while being a budget item it is working as it should and is wired correctly but the thing is it gets very hot to the touch, a few seconds is pretty much a burn but with my soft hands 1 second is hot enough and does have a hot surface warning on it but it seems just too hot, I'm looking into a CORE 40A but need to know that it won't get hot because the last thing I need is a fire? Thanks
@REDARCElectronics22 күн бұрын
Hi Brenton, thanks for your comment. BCDC Core being air-cooled can indeed get quite hot to the touch on its heatsink when operating at full power. As long as they have good breathing space around them and even better some airflow too, that can work perfectly fine. The units are designed to begin de-rating their output over 55 deg C, so if they do get too hot they can stop charging. No risk of any thermal events that's for sure! You might instead need to think where the Kings unit is mounted and give it a bit more airflow or space around it, that may do the trick too. We hope that helps Brenton, let us know if you need a further hand.
@brenton.s285419 күн бұрын
@ ok thanks, when you say over 55 degrees C that’s the temperature of the charger itself right not ambient temperature
@REDARCElectronics17 күн бұрын
Yes correct! It's measure the internal temperature of the Charger, right on the circuit board and reacts from there. If ambient is well into the 40 deg C range and where the unit is mounted is much hotter anyway, it will be pretty close to this!
@brenton.s285417 күн бұрын
@ ok cool, I’ve temporarily put an 8” usb fan in front of my kings charger on the second speed and it still feels too hot to me, the heat sink is not the best

What is the best solution to isolate the orange wire with a switch so I can either use a lithium or switch to agm battery ?
@REDARCElectronicsАй бұрын
Hi, You can use a standard on/off toggle switch installed between the Orange and Green wires of the BCDC. If you want the Lithium profile selected, have it so the switch is toggled one way and the opposite for AGM/GEL (orange disconnected affectively). Hope that helps!

Are you saying that the light should come on even if there is no trailer on? I followed the install and there is no light when I press the button. However, I have no trailer hooked up.
@REDARCElectronicsАй бұрын
Hi, When the TowPro has power from the vehicle battery, you should be able to press in the Remote Head button and a Blue LED should fade in then out again to signify its in 'sleep' mode. If you don't see this initially, we recommend checking power supply to the TowPro unit by testing the Black and White wires to the unit - see if you have good battery voltage there. Further than that, it may be a bad connection of the Remote Head cable back to the main TowPro unit as well - check this out too.

Hello, You can install the BSEN500 ONLY if you have the RedVision display fitted with your manager30 system. The Bsen500 is not backwards compatible with the old-style display screen.

Nice bit of kit BUT... it's $5700 and doesn't include a battery... which is another $2000+ if you buy a Redarc lithium... @REDARCElectronics I wish you had a more reasonable range of entry-level solutions. Specifically, something preassembled and able to charge a second battery, basic devices like your phone or camera and run a fridge when camping. All of these featured systems cost more than $8000... and are overkill for the average camper! I bought the Redarc 1240 BCDC kit, 100a century lithium battery, all the plugs, sockets, fuses etc because I wanted a good quality system that would last but all the other brands on the market make their stuff in China and use cheap components...
@REDARCElectronicsАй бұрын
Hi Rob, thanks for the feedback there. At the moment, we are definitely starting to look into solutions like this, that are more of an entry-level correct. We started with these current back-planes as you see here now and we will add more in the future! I hope that somewhat answers your question, thanks again.

Do you plan on making behind seat systems for Dual Cab Utes?
@REDARCElectronics2 ай бұрын
Hi Liam - at this stage we don't have a plan for this setup so far. But we have seen other 4WD retailers out there that do such mounting brackets/battery trays for such a setup, so you could consult with them and use something like our BCDC unit to charge said battery. I hope that somewhat helps! Let us know if you have any other questions.

Hey guys. With the common ground, can the vehicle input be earthed on the starter battery (through a wiring kit), but the dcdc input and solar input be earthed on the negative of the lithium aux battery?
@REDARCElectronics2 ай бұрын
Hi CJ, thanks for your comment. Normally we use the chassis instead of a direct connection to the battery, only to save running an extra cable through! Plus the chassis is a a big bus-bar, so useful to utilise. If you do connect the BCDC and Solar negative to the Auxiliary battery, you would then also need to connect this to the chassis too - so the BCDC can have a ground reference of the Start battery. We hope that makes sense, see how you go and any other questions let us know!
@chrisharris40472 ай бұрын
I’m confused by grounding (earthing the metal body of unit) - I’m presuming this refers to the 240v side of things - I see the advice is to earth to the chassis but the chassis of a 4WD isn’t connected to the earth except via the tyres, which presumably act as an insulator to some degree - doesn’t this increase the risk of electrocution if the chassis becomes 240v AC ‘live’ and the person who touches it from outside (or getting in/ out of the vehicle) earths it ?
@REDARCElectronics2 ай бұрын
Hi Chris, thanks for your comment. When we refer to the chassis earth/ground connection, this is purely to ground the case to earth for if an event happened on the AC-side and the case were to go live. Having said that, the unit would fault and shut-down anyway if this were to occur, so normally minimal risk. We hope that helps Chris! Let us know if you have any other questions!

Can you use the Rogue without the Manager 30? If you have the Core25, will it still work and show the in and output?
@REDARCElectronics2 ай бұрын
Hi there! You definitely can use the TVMS Rogue + RedVision Display without having the full setup of the Manager30. Use any BCDC unit, with our Smart Battery Monitor (BSEN500) as well and this can give you State of Charge, current flow into your Loads or Battery, plus voltage and temperature reading of the Aux batteries too. Hope that helps!

@REDARCElectronics will it only work with the BSEN500 or with other shunts, like Victron?

Hi there, thanks for your comment. Our system is only design to work with the BSEN500 - using other brands likely won't communicate properly with the Display/system. We hope that helps, any other questions let us know!

Cool. So what if this fails? IE: Both a filament test light or a 21w globe fails to "wake up" the device? The device has been mounted in quite a hard to reach area (thanks to a shonky installer) but I can get a reading from the cables going into it. Red gets 12v when the brakes are pressed. Black is constant 12v White is ground Blue is the one I'm having a hard time with. How can I test this? How can I know if the towpro is faulty? The shonky installer had to send THREE guys out to get it working the first time so my faith in this guy is diminished regarding any warranty work. Got any recommended installers I can trust in Melbourne, northern suburbs?
@REDARCElectronics2 ай бұрын
Hi Andrew - sorry to hear you're having troubles with the controller. Normally if we can't get the unit to react when probing Pin 5 of the trailer socket (Blue wire connection), then its good to attempt this at the back of the TowPro main unit straight into the Blue wire there - see what happens from then. Otherwise, I'd recommend to use our Find An Installer on the website to find a nearby REDnetwork dealer in Melbourne, which we do have a few in that area! Let us know if we can help further Andrew, thanks again.

@@REDARCElectronics Thanks for the message. For the benefit of everyone else who comes looking for info: I eventually got in touch with the installer as it was under warranty. He came out and did all the tests I did, including a test light right off the back of the unit (where the blue wire connects in). Then he pulled it out (was stuck in with heavy duty double sided tape) and re-seated the cables and it came good. Then it played up again. So he replaced it with a new one and this one has so far been OK but I've only used it once. So I'm not sure what the actual problem was, if it was dodgy connections somewhere or perhaps a bad solder joint inside the unit but it's been replaced and I've learned a lot more about them in the process.

why not tell people that the redarc charger will only charge for 2 hours then shut off for 3 hours....
@REDARCElectronics3 ай бұрын
REDARCS BCDC range charge profile is a not limited to two hours. We run a 3hr40min Boost profile followed by a 20min reduced output to allow the battery to settle. Once the 20min reduced output is complete the BCDC will enter the 3hr40min Boost stage again. This will continue until the battery is charged.

I’m having an issue with the tow pro. I tow a horse trailer so I’m generally only lightly applying the brakes and coasting to a stop and only then am I pressing the brakes hard to come to a complete stop. It goes from basically no brakes, then when I press a little harder to braking so hard that my horse gets throw backwards and almost falls. I have recalibrated 3 times already.

Hey, I know this guide is 7 years old but I have a Redarc BCDC1240 in my motorhome I bought. (it's red v.s. the usual black though, don't know if that matters.) My living quarters battery is starting to die so i'm going to replace it. Could you send me the digital manual file if you have it? Or could you tell me what the best option would be for batteries? Are LiPo batteries possible on this one?

Solder wont cause the connection to mail function crimping wont either , what cause the connection to mail function is heat and oxidation at the connection. Soldering the connection will be lots better preventing heat when high currants are drawn . The flexing point on the connection will sill be ok it will just move back toward the flexing part of the cable .

So you don't need to connect the blue wire to the brake pedal brake actuator?
@REDARCElectronics3 ай бұрын
The output Blue wire should connect to the trailer socket (7-Way or 12-Way) Trailer Brake output pin. The only wire that might connect to the pedal actuator would be the Red wire from the TowPro. But typically this is only if the vehicle is older and doesn't have any CANBUS related systems, otherwise interference can happen in that method. We hope that helps!
