nice video terry, given the massive losses suffered by the U boat arm in the war, that was a nice tribute in your video, some years ago I built a hasagawa type IX U boat, that could be built as a replica kit or a passive diving motorised model, it had front dive planes set to submerge, that would drive it underwater from the thrust of the motor, then on the conning tower it had a not actually realistic at all radar dish, on a arm that was pushed backwards by the water flow, in turn connected to the rear dive planes to set them to surface. given how leaky it was when i tested it in the bath, it never saw a pond or river! plus, not being actually remote controlled, (motor was switched on or off, thats it) if you forgot to set the rudder to make big turns it would be away in a straight line until the batteries went flat.

It is always butt clenching when you send one of these out on the water...there's always a worry, no matter how much tub testing you do, that she would be lost if a real river boat zipped by....which came very close to happening when i took my s100 out for a spin! I still have plans to do a full submersible build on the Revell 1/72 US Navy Gato within the next couple of years. A Type 9 would be cool if and when i get my hands on one. (1/72 Revell version)

ALARM! Looks good and handles well in the water, Terry. Impressed with the speed. My sister had a house with a large in ground pool in the 1980s and I could not, not scratch build a Jules Verne Nautilus. Following the description from the novel the model was accurate. One meter long, powered by an internal, synthetic rubber cord that would propel it approximately 50 meters. Adjustments to make it almost neutral buoyant, the diving planes would keep it at a set hight while moving forward to a maximum depth of about 1.5 meters. More of an experiment that would be done to develop a RC functioning sub than an end goal the model looked cool running underwater and that was enough for me.

Sadly Paul has informed me that come March 2025 he will be shutting the York shop for good. This is due to the council selling the building he is in to property developers. Sad, Sad news. He will still have the Scarborough shop. Luckily he owns that property, so no council interferance!

I completely disagree. This shop has been going years. We visit York from Middlesbrough 5-8 times a year & it's my goto shop! Always busy, very well stocked & prices are always the same, if not cheaper than elsewhere & that's without paying postage. In fact, my local board game store (beanie games, largest in the North East) now have an ever increasing model section. @littlehistory2392 I don't know where you're from but if you're in the area try redcar models & Hobbies. I absolutely love this store! Plus it also helps that I can nip out on lunch at work to get a bargain! They also have a used section which I tend to buy a lot from! Worse case scenario is you don't like it but at least get a trip to the seaside & a lemon top! 😂

Luckily it's quite famous shop amongst modellers and has been there since 1963. As its right next to what we call a "Bar" Fortified gate house, it's actually quite a clever spot for a shop Literally 10's of thousands of tourists pass by every year to see the gate house.

A film director once said that the worst thing that could happen to a horror movie is to hear the audience laugh. Well, the worst thing that can happen to a model is that after it is built and painted it looks like a toy. Fantastic but becoming a rare sight thanks to successive Government policy. Tax the Internet big boys, particularly the ones registered overseas on the level of the high street and it will balance competition between the Web and the high street and balance the market. The ending of the film was ridiculous but of course films are for entertainment such as the ' joust' scene you mentioned. In reality the Tiger would probably have stayed in cover anyway. Why come out at all. At this time of the way the Allies had air superiority by far and plenty of tank busters aka Typhoons and Tempests. Having said that the Sherman is faster than the Tiger, turret turn speed much better and the Tigers pivot was pretty slow due to its weights and thick tracks. Many Tigers were lost to Allied tanks formidable as it is. Plus although not the actual model Fury was replicating a Sherman Firefly with its very powerful side mounted 17 pounder. Often one of these travelled with 4 standards. The gun was camouflaged to appear smaller as German tank crews new the longer barreled Fireflys were a danger. Famous German tank Ace Wittman met his end at the end of ones of these Shermans. Tigers have a deserved reputation but there weren't many comparatively and were over engineered frequently broken down. The only working one in Europe at least at the Bovington Tank Museum in Dorset, home of the tank ( pay it a visit) was captured in WW2 due to having its turret immobilised by Churchills. Shermans though a middle ground tank, pros and cons later had wet rounds added to help stop brewing up and armour to protect ammo storage. Most tank could brew up if hit and the Sherman no more so. The nickname Ronsons was never used by WW2 soldiers as it wasn't invented until the 50s and although the Germans had some very impressive armour the Shermans outnumbered many in just sheer production. Many were lost and many crews but fir all its defiant strengths the Tiger was defeatable as thankfully so were the enemy. A ridiculous ending took the film down a notch for me but not bad from the usual posing a Pitt film normally has. Gritty in places,no glamour but a film designed to entertain soon with its action sequences. The Tigers formidability makes it even today one of if not the most famous Tanks in the world bit just as at Kursk, numbers, speed and enough T-34 KV-1 75/6 mm rounds will eventually find their mark. I'm just glad I never had to face one!!
