Hey just wanted to thank you for this video. I bought a $500 ranger and the back doors wouldn’t open. I found your video and ordered those parts without know anything. You were right!! That was the exact fix. The doors wouldn’t open plus I wanted to put new speakers in. Thank you!

@ronhat-nx6yq7 ай бұрын
The videos I have seen about these ridiculous door latches are all incorrect or partially correct. The plastic sleeves that fit on the ends of the door latch cables disintegrate. This is on my 2006 ford ranger. It has an upper and a lower latch on the rear doors. (extended cab). New latches for this thing cost a hundred dollars each. But new metal sleeves to repair the cables can be bought for 10 dollars. The rear door handles must be removed. First punch the center out of the rivets holding them in place then drill the rivets out. Remove the cables from the handles by sliding the plastic sliders back.Then remove the top and front latches. The cables on the latches must not and cannot be removed. Make enough slack in the cable to install the new sleeves on the latches. This must be done first as you cannot get the cables balls out of the latches. Then install the new sleeves on the door handle cables. There are plastic sliders on the handles that hold the handle cables in place. Then use long nose pliers to install the cables in the door handles. You can use new rivets to reinstall the handles but a short sheet metal screw is better.

I’m attempting the same swap, 2000 into 98 Ranger. Flex fuel engine into regular fuel truck. I plan to change the entire intake manifold assembly. From what you’ve learned, would that be the ticket?
@thrillbilly97859 ай бұрын
The blocks are identical. You will need to strip the wire harness and fuel system off the 00. Replace it with the complete wire harness and fuel system of the 98. Happy wrenching!
@Rickg29 ай бұрын
@@thrillbilly9785 The video of your adventures and troubles will prove to be helpful, thank you. I get the wiring harness thing. If I remove the entire intakes from each engine, won’t that be changing the fuel delivery system in just one big step? Also, I’m connecting the engine into a manual transmission. Would you recommend installing the engine with the transmission attached?
@thrillbilly97859 ай бұрын
@@Rickg2 the 2000 computer regulates the fuel delivery I believe. Just changing the intake won’t deal with the fuel. Take the upper intake plenum off to make it easier to get to the fuel injectors. All you should need to do is reuse the engine harness and fuel system from the 98 onto the 2000 block. If you have a manual transmission it may be easier to unbolt it from the bell housing. Manuals are a bit easier to install than automatics.

I have the same van, I was thinking about getting the factory hitch installed with the OEM wiring, but the only problem is supposedly there is a module that needs to be programmed by the dealership, do you know if it’s even possible to install a factory hitch on these ?
@thrillbilly978510 ай бұрын
During my research to install the hitch and wiring I went with, I didn’t come across any factory options. By going strictly aftermarket, I was able to install a turnkey wiring harness in my van by tapping into the brake harness and a power supply. I’m afraid I don’t have any info on factory tow packages.

Very helpful, sir. Got all my ends on, the door now opens. However, now the top latch won't snap into locked/secure position when I close it. Bottom works fine...
@thrillbilly978511 ай бұрын
My only thought is to ensure the cable isn’t too tight which means the latch won’t close. That or lubricate the mechanism to ensure free movement to close.

Just a heads up for anyone attempting this fix let it be known its NOT the plastic gear which is the issue. It's the motor itself becoming loose from the gear housing. The metal tabs that are pressed against the gear housing over time will loosen up and allow the steel worm gear to wobble inside the gear housing. This is what will strip even a brass gear over time. The real fix I have seen is again pressing the tabs back tight against the housing (more often than not you cannot do this because the metal tabs are probably too weak anyway), and insert a hard plastic strip behind the worm gear. This will prevent it from wobbling again. Or you can just pick up a new headlight motor assembly cheap off Rock Auto as well. That's what I did. EDIT: Also if you want to be real cheap these headlight motors only use half of the gear anyway to lift the headlights. So you can just open it up and rotate the gear 180 degrees and put it back in and have a working headlight motor again.
@kylemilford59684 ай бұрын
Even easier than that, couldn't a guy remove the linkage rod, manually rotate the gear 180 degree and put it back together.
