BILL CHAMPLIN is a musical genius who can sing, compose songs, play the guitar and the piano even waaaay better than Robert Lamm himself. That's why David Foster gave him the piano parts (and even the vocals) for the most important hits during the early 80s like Hard Habit to Break, Hard To Say I'm Sorry, You're the Inspiration etc. And don't forget the Bill Champlin hits like Look Away, Chasing the Wind, I Don't Wanna Live Without Your Love, You're not Alone. And his songs w/ Jason Scheff were really good like Explain it to My Heart and Will You Still Love Me!

I never knew Gloria Loring was white. Not that it matters. I'd never seen either performer. I only just discovered this after trying to scratch an itch and listen to an Eddie Rabbitt song. Several Eddie Rabbitt songs later, and I discover his version of this song with Juice Newton. "This sounds familiar," I thought, and here I am, learning about the version I'd always enjoyed. Fun to still be discovering trivial facts in 2024.

No. ... Some songs are un-singable by anyone other than the original voices. There will never be the mighty power of Terry Kath; Pete can be simulated. The song was written and performed in such an indelible way, with such emotional rawness, who wants this weak tea.

A Living Legend. Bill Champlin

Bill Champlin and Peter Cetera's studio version (in the album) nailed it. It was perfect! But even Bill and Jason's version during their live concert performances was more than good. They breathe their own style and musicality in it. But with Robert Lamm, Noooo! Robert Lamm's voice was an off key Cookie Monster that shouldn't be in the song in the first place. Glad it was omitted otherwise the song would be ruined. This is my favourite song from Chicago, among many other songs 😊
