Can you grow most sugarcanes in zone 5 (assuming you winterize like you did)? Are they labeled Zone 6-10 as a perrenial,, but capable of being grown in cold if winterized?
@hutsadyk7 ай бұрын
You can grow them all but most varieties require a much longer growing season to reach maturity. Over my experience they have been edible by the time the cold comes, however just shorter is size.

My daughter loves soup and Pho. I will try to make it. Is the bone beef leg? What are the meatballs? Brand? What cut of beef is the thinly sliced meat at the end? So much wisdom from your mom and I have so many questions. 😊😁 I bless you. 🥰

Thank you for liking the video The meat used in this one was a pork leg The meatballs she actually made herself. I don't remember what kind of beef she used at the end, but it's usually a pretty basic one like a flank steak or chuck steak

did you propagate those in the spring and then plant around june or so and then is this 3 months from that? or did you straight plant cuttings without propagating 3 months prior 8/17/17? because that looks like 5 months of growth, but amazing if its the latter, good stuff
@hutsadyk2 жыл бұрын
I first put them in the soil in June or late May
@MRJUGGERNAUTSILLz2 жыл бұрын
you can cut the sprout off the primary shoot by cutting it clean off the base where its growing and then propagating in water again so you can keep the mother cane for juicing instead of chopping up to plant each node
@hutsadyk2 жыл бұрын

When you say overwinter. You mean you just left it outside? I have one .5 gal and brought inside it started to die and dried out? Is it growing back in the summer?
@hutsadyk2 жыл бұрын
I bring them inside. They will die back, but you should get new growth from the eyes towards the base then you can replant those. I will cut them off to make new plants then put a layer of soil over the root base and it should grow new ones too

you want to use a loamy soil that isnt acidic, you need an alkaline soil which is ph balance around 6 to 7 neutral that isnt compacted. The heat makes big impact on sugarcane, grows best around 80-100 degrees F, i think thats starting around the 32 degrees celcius mark, im 1 month and 10 days in, sown march 8th, had a bit of a heat wave around beginning of april up to 95 degrees F for about a week or so, my sugarcane got very leafy and started to grow up to 8 inches on the biggest ones, now weather is around 63F low and 68 F highs, now i dont see too much growth even though the sun is still bright and the UV is very high, very excited for summer even though i hate the heat, i expect these things to explode, also it is a grass so it can take a good amount of NPK (nitrogen potassium and phosphorus) USED coffee grinds are working for me, including banana peels soaked in water for few days and pour the juice into soil, also rice cleaned off in water and using the water works has a light dosage so its very safe, you can also use your own urine, but you will have to water it plenty after because of salt in the urine, i wouldnt piss on it everytime you gotta use the bathroom, ive only done it twice. dont use fertilizers and these foods during the ripening stages which is during the last few months before harvest, giving these nutrients during non growth stage will strip the sugar content and you will have tasteless sugar cane
@KwaiTerk3 жыл бұрын
How much would you say it grew during the warm months?

I would get at best 2 ft of edible cane by the time it stopped growing
