Reid wasn’t in a realistic position to challenge for the ball in the air, he just took the catcher out. Penalty should have been awarded to the lions. In my opinion only.

@@pushthetempo2 I definitely get that but this is just creating the same hostility within Rugby by importing it from another sport. I'm a fan of both sports but I don't get the point of taking one of the things you dislike from one and bringing it into your own then complaining about it. I never noticed this before but the subtleties are so great! You can even see Read doing his own tricks when he realises what Warburton is doing, he moves up so he is ever so slightly in front of Warburton when Poite turns around, yet Warburton pushes him away when they are walking so he is in Poite's eyeline for longer. Even better when Warburton distracts Farrell from disrupting the plan by bluffing that the Lions were going to get a pen. Smart to remove the provocative element from the situation.

Sounds like this referee is a problem referee; to someone more familiar with rugby, what is the deal with this guy?
@WhereIsTheIntruder3 жыл бұрын
He's doing exactly what he should: he calls what he sees and doesn't take any complaints, but makes sure to check with the TMO anything that he's not sure about. If it turns out he was wrong (as he was here) he'll overturn the call and explain what happened so the penalyzed team knows and doesn't incur in any further infractions. This is exactly what rugby refereeing should be like, and luckily, what it is most of the time.
@WhereIsTheIntruder3 жыл бұрын
Just to try to explain further how it works, in rugby referees have a very didactic role. The game is hectic and dangerous and many situations are confusing as to what the rules do; referees then are constantly talking, trying to keep players from comitting infractions making verbal warnings, and explaining their decisions so that players know what to avoid in the future. What this means in turn is that players can ask the ref questions, but complaining or trying to influence a decision is absolutely prohibited (doesn't mean that they don't happen from time to time though).
