Every time I see this video I just want to cry. Why? Because I met her back in the 80’s at her house in Syracuse N Y. I never told her that when I was 12 I used to sing this song. I met her because I was there to accompany her daughter to her doctor’s appointment. I was a nurse Aid at that time doing home care. She told nearly her whole life story.

She was Travis picking before Merle Travis was even born. This is Cotton Picking, and I don't mean in the fields.

It's almost like a reverse Travis picking! because she's got the guitar upside down . And she did not reverse the guitar strings,,,. amazing 🎸

Her music has brought me to tears so many times, even her instrumental songs, something magic in her hands and something real in her heart

Elizabeth is one of a few left handed guitarists who turned around a right handed guitar but didn't restring it. A lot of people say Hendrix did but he restrung it.

Enjoyed this, but “the part of Kentucky where Bill Monroe was born” is not the Bluegrass. The music is named for his band, The Bluegrass Boys, which Monroe named for his home state, the Bluegrass state. Nor is his Ohio County home in the mountains. A little hilly, yes, but not the mountains in the eastern part of the state.

I need to learn how to play this!!! Sounds like she is in an open tuning possibly open D, but I'm going to have to try and figure it out when I have my guitar handy.

This reminds me of my dear ol' mom who was still singing & playing the piano at age 96 tears cold. She too, would make up her own songs, Gospel that is.

I learned to play this song in berklee, I had so much fun, it had a beautiful simplistic charm to it, then I started playing and singing it in front of my girlfriend and her eyes lit up when I started singing 'when I'm dead and in my grave"
