Working as a Union Ironworker...using chains for rigging any load is the most dangerous type of rigging..we never use chains to lift anything.! PERIOD

Yet it is the most common type of sling used in Australia in general crane hire followed by softies and then wire rope

Good thorough video thanks. One thing though, at 4min20, you mention to check for 'flaking paint', which there IS some flaking paint on your boom that I can see. So what would you do about that and is that something to worry about??

Great video! Can anyone help with understanding where rigging is different from slinging. I was unfamiliar with the former, everyone on site are using words like: Sling, slinging or hook(concrete skip).

hey kieran have some questions in regards to rigging and might make a good video in regards to the aus standards, im a crane operator and one thing that is always in question is do spreader bars equalise and how much do they equalise, other common questions are does a rams horn equalise or stinger (head set of chains) it seems that every company or supervisor you talk to has their own idea would be good to get a concise explanation on what does equalise and how much what your opinions are and what the aus standards say in regards to equalising gear. thanks.

Hit the nail on the head.We all know what needs to happen. And if it doesn't happen soon , there'll be no one left to pass on industry experience. Show me a bloke with no rpl's that in 1 week can learn to" safely and competently " operate even a franna. And I'll show you someone full of shit

When you park up for the night and you jib up to a safe height . Do you leave the franna in crane mode and turn it off for do you switch it back to travel and then switch off for the night ?

hay mate a was watching your vid and noticed that you leave it in 3 rd gear with the p t o on do you not put that back into neutral after engaged the p t o i have not drivin a small truck crane in 20 years but this was a good refresher vid
@kieranstraining2 ай бұрын
Gday mate , most of the old katos and tadanos were always in neutral. I have typically only found the Chinese cranes such as zoomlion and xcmg you leave in gear for the pto

I was taught bow to bow unless you have some pull to the sides (opening up the shackle) eg 2 softies at 90°. I take it you’re concerned about the pin being backed out?
@weldmachine2 ай бұрын
Bow to Bow is good, because it helps spread the load and it leaves the pin easier to access for your load, and IF you plan to use slings the pin is a better option to allow for even load across the sling 👍 But as he mentioned in the video pin to pin isn't such a great idea ??
