I have an OM-1 in perfectly working condition with a clear view finder. Should I have the prism foam removed as a preventive measure?
@alvincctrn
@alvincctrn 2 жыл бұрын
That is a good question. I think if you feel comfortable in being able to take it apart and putting it back together again then go for it. Otherwise maybe if you see the slightest hint of something going on in the prism you can stop it. Considering that’s a pretty old camera and it hasn’t happened yet is probably a good sign however.

The foam or material Olympus applied inside the camera has dissolved to a liquid. This goo will react to the silver prism coating if left alone. It is possible Olympus changed the material during the production years. or the goo does not flow onto your prism. If you can open the top you should do it or inspect. but you can damage some of the screws or finish. If the prism is damaged it does not alter the picture just your view. If the goo flows onto the meter it will be damaged. I have seen 5 for 5 with minor to sever damage. 3 cameras have not been opened. Pentax and Minolta also have this problem. Do not turn the screw on the rewind knob. it is a decorative aluminum part and will break. Do not move the power switch it is a circuit board and cracks if not aligned when the top is replaced.

I'm not saying that the CG was correct but when you finished your turn sounded like throttle was back and she was dropping not climbing which is what wouldn't happen with the tail heavy plane. It looked like the elevator was sensitive or too much elevator was being used rather than throttle that plane was sinking after you cut back on throttle not climbing until she dropped too much. After the aborted Landing and losing airspeed initiating a sharp turn is the kiss of death. You had a long runway in front get some airspeed. Great idea pulling up the gear to deal with the situation.

Really neat stuff, fellas! I've tried flying while sitting down, but it seems to restrict my body movements during maneuvers. Of course, given Stans situation, I would hope to adapt. Also, a shout out to the camera operator for the nice footage. It is appreciated. P.S. I know this was posted years ago, but I just had to leave a comment.

@@alvincctrn You are most welcome. I kept a Pentax K-1000 by my side for many years. Strictly manual, although it did have a light meter. A lot of great shots with that thing, but at least as many outtakes. My new Canon DSLR and I aren't getting on very well, I'm afraid. It's just not the same. Cheers!

@@richarddarlington1139 that is great. Yep I have gone a little crazy buying old film cameras but I still love using them. I’ve been developing black-and-white at home and then scanning the negatives on a special scanner and uploading them. Still brings back the fun of doing it the old way

Watching this in 2021 after buying a used 80-200mm f2.8 D. I will do a lens fine-tuning when I have the time on my D500 and D7200. However, so far the image quality is on the same level or even better than the newer lenses, and the AF is not that slow. No need for VR as I keep my shutter speed at 1/300s or 1/400s minimum.

I agree the 70-200mm VR 1 is nice & fast but the lens design of the 80-200mm makes it even a better lens in terms of picture quality & sharpness on par with many prime lens. So I guess it a question of fine tuning the lens to body if it has back focus issue cause I have had 2 different copy of this lens & used them with various body over the year & the only one that I have had an issue with was my old D700 but all others I had none from the start I still shoot with it & my old D800 & get the best results.

I shoot with a lot of cameras and lenses, with a high overall budget for experiments, a slight compromise on price is necessary. Your review helped me, thank you. I also like to deal with less electronics and more glass and mechanical parts. Recently lost a kit lens due to bad ribbon conductor to AF system. It is terribly silly as specs for electronics are not gauranteed like abberations, dispersions, etc. Damn cheap electronics!
