The very best thing about Wigan is that it is not St Helens. It has other good qualities.

I note that someone is calling her scrap!!!! Obviously does not live in Arran, depending on her working on her own, doing her best and getting people to where they are going! At 40 yrs l'd, I'd not be in her condition with the hard work she and her crew employ. I am nearly double her age and ready for the Nackery! She is a lovely wee vessel, and if they had scrapped her, how many would be swimming, with no other spares available. This winter ( a bad one) has has all the golden oldies holding the wild west Atlantic,,,,,,The MV Arran, the MV Hebridean Isles, The MV Mull, MV Lord of the Isles etc. etc. Lets be greatful to them and their smashing crews, who work themselves to their bones, to make our sailing as good as possible, in often very trying circumstances. .......Tich

I started my career as a Chef at the County Hotel in Wellington Square in 1976. Ayr was a bustling vibrant little town now it just looks half abandoned. I loved my time there and have taken my daughters when they were young for a holiday. I wish it well and hope it’s gets back to its heyday soon.

Its lost some vitality over the years but clean tidy nothing looking completely neglected, of course the sunshine helps. I love my home town, hope the levelling money works wonders. I particularly noticed the nightlife area around King street has hollowed out since my day (1990s). Good video.

Mm unless one has a lot of luggage. If so either (1) the direct connecting bus or (2) from lower glasgow queen st, westbound to partick rail stn, then cross over to the other side and then catch a train to lower level glasgow central.

I think the decline of most seaside towns started when most folk started going abroad in the 80s/90s. Having said that, the beach in Ayr is still always packed on a really hot day. Specially right next to Pirate Petes

I live in Ardrossan and don't often use the train, but it is a lovely journey back home if I go to Glasgow. I moved here to retire and have loved being by the sea everyday. During lockdown I could not have been anywhere better, with wallks on the beach and peace and quiet.

Once beautiful. Now hideous. My heart breaks on the odd occasion I now have to go into the town. Who wants alledged improvements supplemented for by money from China?

My home town until I was forced to move away in 1991. I really do miss the place. I came to england to visit my sister in August. We came to Wigan during that visit. It is funny how I was home in the UK but did not feel like I was until I was in Wigan. It most certainly is a wonderland. Seeing all the best buildings getting destroyed is definitely heart wrenching. 😢
