Disappointing to hear the condescension from Williams.

Travis Williams has two jobs with the Pirates. He is in charge of Dollar Dog Nights and feeding the fanbase with blatant BS about actually trying to win games.
@gregoryhoyle373938 минут бұрын
Travis Williams basically called Pirates fans a "distraction." This distraction isn't coming to a game in 2025. I'll give my money to the Wildthings.

I am a recent devotee of DK's daily shots. I cannot believe that DK's positions (Pirates) mirror mine. His gloom and doom regarding the Pirates' direction has me convinced that there is absolutely no hope! Beyond comprehension that firing Huntington resulted in a worse front office. I know they are trying to succeed, but just look at the dearth of offensive weapons in the minors. Gloom and doom is an optimistic perspective on their future...droping into a deeper abysmal hole of non-competitive performance on and off the field!

Skenes is gone in 2027 because the Pirates will not be able to afford him once he reaches his arbitration years

I’m glad that Williams made the “distraction” statement. Shows the fans exactly how they see us. “Shut up, pay up, and here’s more Rowdy Tellez”
@panzerschreckpeteСағат бұрын
All that response is, is an anodyne piece of wordsmithing that tries to deflect the issue to the way the season ended not the ongoing incompetence of management at all levels. The corporate sideswipe at the fans calling for the team to be sold is obnoxiously disdainful and dismissive. Sorry but this guy might be a nice guy in person but he's just parroting the company line but behind clenched teeth
@moon2019-z7p2 сағат бұрын
Why is Williams replying to anything? His name's not on the billboards. The only person who should be saying anything is Nutting. Where's his statement? Willimas releasing some patronizing corporate-speak blah blah blah, means nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Why would Skenes want to sign with what is obviously a 3rd class organization? Unless he is a bodhisattva who took rebirth just to save the pirates.

Marching Travis Williams out to address the billboards tells me one thing: Everyone from Travis Williams down to the last guy on the bench is hamstrung by the consistently worst owner in professional sports. It wouldn't have mattered if they had picked Arnold over Cherrington. The person making the final decision has no idea what he is doing. Period.

Thank you for covering this campaign. I have made a donation, and if this gains steam, I will donate again. I encourage others to do so. And those who are organizing this campaign, with their time and resources, thank you. I am sick of this general disregard and lack of respect to the fan base by this front office. If ownership doesn't want to hold people accountable, then I support this effort 1000%.

So I do have a question. Skenes is one of those truly special talents. Now that he’s in the position he’s in, could he go to Nutting and say, look, I want to stay but if you are not willing to build this team into a contender, I’m out of here ASAP. Does he have that kind of pull and do you think he’s the kind of leader that might take that approach to make this team better? Obviously I hope we just get a new owner and management group and it’s not even necessary for him to consider that move.
@brucehamilton770223 сағат бұрын
Morning DK!!! I’m so glad to see Pirates fans making the effort to make Nutting and all his minions disappear. I’m here in Massachusetts and will be following this until I pray they are successful. Grew up in Beaver PA. and if I was there I’d be joining in on the protests. I’m 65 and remember when this team was such a positive part of the fabric of the MLB and hope they are again!!

Skenes could be the next great Pittsburgh sports legend: Wagner, Clemente, Lemieux, Greene, Crosby, Stargell, Franco, etc. All greats whose personal qualities were as great as their athletic abilities, and who enriched the lives of Pittsburghers. But only with new ownership.

Thanks to Zach for initiating this proactive billboard campaign. It provides an important opportunity to participate in something larger, results-oriented, unifying, and hopefully meaningful to Pirate fans everywhere. And thanks to Paul Skenes for possessing a multitude of qualities -- as a 22-year-old no less -- that Pirates ownership and management haven't attempted to personally cultivate (on behalf of the team): ● professionalism ● being extremely good at one's job ● enthusiasm for the sport ● the pursuit of excellence ● mature and astute judgment ● an ability to read the room ● humility As a Pirate fan, I find it particularly valuable that Skenes is in Pittsburgh to provide this consistent backdrop of incredible talent and amazing personal character. He exemplifies what's possible when individuals genuinely strive to be the best that they can be-- a goal that ownership and management haven't yet bothered to visibly demonstrate.

DK, the Pirates fandom has run with your suggestion, and let those billboards get under Nuttings skin. They aren't going away, it's going to get worse for him. He either needs to put up, or face the continuing wrath, until he waves the white flag. With the amount of talent this team has, a new owner injecting money and a FO who knows how to draft Latin American players, that, 50 years ago plus, they excelled at, the Pirates could reurn to dominance. Plaster 40/50 of those billboards everywhere near PNC Park, so Bob cannot avoid them!

If he's so terrified of losing money, why doesn't he just sell, become a billionaire and ride off into the sunset? He must be a glutton for punishment. It can't be fun having an entire city hate you.
@weary14 күн бұрын
His personal net worth is ALREADY reported to be $1.1 BILLION. Why should he sell if he can be in an exclusive club of only 30 MLB owners (think EGO), not spend anything, and keep making a very handsome profit, even if not a single person attends a game? And he never has to face the press, the fans, or the city administration. And, apparently, not the NL president (if there still is such a position) or the MLB commissioner, either.

From _Merriam_Webster:_ _FAN_ (noun) "An enthusiastic devotee (as of a sport or a performing art) _usually as a spectator."_ Bob Nutting meets the basic criteria of this definition of _fan,_ but in the most passive sense-- as a SPECTATOR. There are "active" fans (i.e. Pirate fans actively participating in a movement to help identify and utilize avenues of assistance for this Pirates team), and there are "passive" fans (i.e. Nutting -- _the owner_ -- who's primarily a spectator and not much of anything else). There are also responsible team owners actively and consistently striving to improve their team because the organizational goal is "winning" from the top down. On the flip side, there are irresponsible team owners whose primary goal isn't winning-- they have other personal and business-related agendas that have nothing to do with their team, their team's improvement and success, and certainly not the happiness of their team's fans. They ultimately hire individuals who can help them maintain this paradigm. If Nutting is so out of touch that he either can't see -- or doesn't want to see -- that a consistently successful Pirates team could generate a considerable amount of additional revenue, then something else is going on here. It's a no-brainer that successful MLB teams generate more revenue, yet Nutting is avoiding what would absolutely make the most business sense. My personal opinion is that this Pirates organization (Bob Nutting, the management team, etc.) is comprised of a collection of individuals who are primarily EFFORT-AVERSE. They continue to be mediocre because it doesn't require effort to be mediocre. Success necessitates hard work on a regular basis, and self-improvement also involves difficult work. There are people who prefer the easier tasks because they lack the talent or skills to complete the most difficult ones. There are also _"cognitive misers"_ -- individuals who prefer "low-effort" tasks as a way to avoid expectations. In my view, Nutting has ultimately assembled a staff of _effort-averse, cognitive misers._ Winning consistently would mean additional effort, and also dealing with expectations or pressures that might accompany it. Unfortunately, current Pirates management has gotten used to being well compensated for a very modest amount of effort, as well as a predominantly manageable level of pressure over the past five years. This is what Scott Harris (President of Baseball Operations for the Detroit Tigers) said at the recent GM meetings held in San Antonio regarding improving Detroit's 2025 roster through internal development and external additions: "We've got to do both, and we are actively doing both. This isn't a moment in time where we just focus on external additions and forget about development. We are just as focused on development through the offseason while we're trying to add from the outside. _It means we've got a lot on our plate, but that's what it SHOULD be."_ Franchises truly trying to build a successful team accept and embrace "having a lot on their plates." Not the Pirates. As long as Nutting and his flunkies continue to be in charge, this team will be in a no-win situation -- literally -- based on the continued lack of effort. They'll likely muster a bit more energy in an attempt to save their jobs, but no one should have to be subjected to this group in 2025 or beyond-- not the Pirate players or their fans. It's extremely important that the SEA intends to hold Nutting accountable, and it's time to finally put a stop to the years of _intentional_ low-effort FAILURE by this Pirates franchise.

The ownership is perfectly happy with the profit margin that they have created. They are guaranteed this year in and year out. why change the situation on the hopes of making a lot more. if you’re really right about ownership having a relationship with the players why would he not taken into consideration there advice why is it just advice from analytical nerds?

Thank you DK for doing this and enlightening us to the real issues with Mr Nutting. The silence at 115 Federal remains utterly incomprehensible since you portray him as a fan who is fully engaged with various aspects of the Pirates. Whether he is fearful of losing $$ or not he must know the state of the pirate fan base after 5 yrs of Ben rhetoric which remains anger and frustration. All he needs to do is look at communities like Kansan City, Minny, Milwaukee Cleveland and realize how far behind the Pirates are. Keep up the great work
