Its necessary wear weight in the side with no tank to get balance?

Sorry, but there is NO WAY that he is correctly weighted. NO WAY. Air is 1.28g/L. EANX50 is ~1.34g/L So, an AL80 pumped to 200bar of air holds ~2.84kg of gas. He's got 4 of them strapped on, thereby got close to 11kg of gas mass (assuming there is no helium involved). In order to remain neutral throughout the dive he thereby NEEDS 11kg of lift that he can add at the start of the dive, and remove by the end of the dive after the gas in all cylinders has been breathed off. Looking at how he is with an empty wing and a squeezed suit, there is NO WAY that he is going to be able to stay underwater with 11kg of gas loss by the end of the dive. He's going to pop up like a cork, or wind up having to ditch empty tanks to shed buoyancy. Turns out a cave diver beat me to it, and has pointed this all out below...

Hi, Thanks for the comment and thinking about what we are showing. You are right about the mass of the gas of course. I am using 2 x 12L steel and a 2 x Alu80 BTW (not really related to the total mass) - but we are not weighting ourselves for zero bar, more like 50 bar, so the mass of gas is about 3/4 of the full 200bar fill. One thing that is often crossed is the idea of lift needed vs weight needed. They are not the same thing. If we need say 8kg of lift for the gas weight, that does not mean we need 8kg of lead. So we have lets say 8kg of lift needed at the start that we don't need at the end (200 bar to 50 bar usage in 4 tanks). We then just add whatever weight MIGHT be needed to keep us at 5m with those tanks at 50bar. This amount of weight is nothing to do with what we lost, only what we have at 50bar. And so if I have more muscle, I need less than if I am not as fit. If I am using thicker garments, I need more lead than if I had fewer garments. If I am in Salt, I need more lead than in Fresh. So the issue is not the weight we lose, but the weight we end up with. The lift of course depends on the gas weight we will lose - and so we are seeing if I can lift the 8kg using something other than the wing - and of course we already used a bit of gas getting to the wreck, so a little lighter by then too. Hope that explains a bit more? Cheers

Thank you for all the knowledge you spread with good conscience. I have a question i hope you can answer without too harsh a judgement. If you're at 21 meters, at 80% lung volume and neutral... How will you be able to keep hovering at say 5 meters im case you wanted or needed to do a safety stop? Or even not shoot too quickly up at 3/2 meters? I cannot see how even breathing uncomfortably shallow (say 20% lung capacity) i could keep neutral buoyancy at 5/3 meters. I did not calculate my lung capacity, but just by body memory I don't feel like neutral at 21meters could translate to neutral at 5 meters just by breathing shallower. Hope the question was well understandable and can spark a positive conversation on the subject. Be well

Thank you for the comment, I am assuming that you mean with a failed BCD since this is video you posted it on. In actual practice of this as I show in the video it is possible. What I would say is that firstly you should get our full range of online training, and I am sure it will be explained to you in there, along with many other things, plus we will help you if something is not answered as you have made an invested in us www.sidemounting.com/the-shop/ secondly the key is to be correctly weighted in the first place, then having good breathing control, finning techniques and underwater skills make staying at depth with BCD failures possible.

The heavy duty Santi ones are resistant but a nightmare for dexterity as you say. I don't own heated ones but my thick under gloves did fit in Marigold XL. I have medium glove size normally so I guess my hands are small enough. They don't have a long life time though. Need to look into which Showa might better. The blue ones aren't great on dexterity either.

What do you make of the quick adjust clips on the Rec? Don' quite know if they make sense or not...? I'm really interested in the Rec but it only comes with the clips.. Unless custom ordered, which adds quite a sum of money, the standard configs are almos always reduce in price in most places. I find the Tec wraps around me a little too much.

I personally would not get with quick release buckles on the harness, but they should not get in the way too much, if a problem you could just switch that webbing out yourself not too much of an issue, we show how to configure harnesses correctly in our online sidemount course www.sidemounting.com/product/sidemount-course-subscription/ Regards, Steve

IDK when these dummies will figure out that a crotch strap is a dumb idea. Leg loops as used on a rock climbing harness are much more comfortable and much less chafe. When a sidemount manufacturer figures this out, I will buy. The crotch strap is STUPID!! And it’s a chafe point.

Balance rig, Trim, Configuration checks. Back Kicking, Dry runs etc. These are skills that you ll never learn with PADI and many other quick qualification agency. Scuba Diving is an extreme sport that requires mental and physical training. What you learn when you go on holiday called OPEN WATER is some sort of advanced Snorkelling. I would NEVER let my kid go diving with a PADI DIVE master GUIDE. The dive centres that use PADI and many other agency are still teaching scuba dving with BCD instead of Hogarthian configuration which is safer and complete and the training are far more thorough and fun than the three days rip off course that you can never fail from other popular and established agency. Safe Diving 👈🏼

Something is not clear for me. With the example in the video of 3,3 kg weight + 1 kg additional weight which still gives neutral bouyancy on the surface, what will happen if my tank will be empty and weight will be less with the 2 kg? I will have positive buoyancy and I will not be able to stop on 3 or 5 m safety stop because I will have positive buoyancy. Or if have neutral buoyancy on the surface with full tank, and I have 7 mm neoprene I will not be neutral at 25 m depth with full tank, is not it?

I was trained in emergency ascent from 25 ft. The instructor goes behind you while 25 feet underwater and shuts off your air to simulate an out of air emergency. You ascend fairly quickly, actively exhaling all the way to the surface so you dont blow out a lung. They dont do this training anymore because its considered too dangerous!

With integrated weights, you could still drop one weight from your bcd. As you use up your air, the tank will be more buoyant and you will have trouble doing a safety stop and holding a steady depth if you are just a bit underweighted. I dive with 5 mil wetsuit and carry 18 lbs lead. It always works just right for me, but i will do some testing and simulate a blown bcd. That tip about using a smb for emergency buoyancy was a great idea... i would have never thought of that!

Nice vid dude! Could you do a comparison sometime of all the "Jetfins" out there? i have a pair of Taiwan made Shark Jet Fins distributed by Halcyon here in Auz (by Reel Dive.se in EU), then there's Aropec's and ScubaPro's Taiwan fins too, then the rest. Rhetorically speaking aren't we just paying for a name when SHARK and AROPEC's are identical to ScubaPro's. Probably the same factory!?
