Bodybuilders are only for show its not for the long haul its only about fame and fortune. I know because I was one went to the Mr America, Mr usa, Mr universe. But it didn't necessarily help my health for longevity and quality of life. But now at 64 I'm in your camp. Thank you for teaching and sharing your experiences ❤

Liked it so much better back when I was growing up! In the 60's there were more sugar cane fields than surfers. In the 70's, looonnnnggggggg before the internet and surfline and the web cams at surf spots, of course, I much preferred it!!!! Growing up born and raised in Hawaii, going surfing was a matter of checking the spot yourself. No instant camera check on your "smart" phone like today, and compared to the ridiculous crowds of surfers today, we basically had it to ourselves and shared sessions with friends and familiar faces. Hate to say this, but we had it so good!!! By comparison today it's pretty much ruined. The waves at most spots are basically just as good. However some waves have changed or disappeared due to building jetties and break walls and harbors etc. The ocean is king. It will always have it's way with the coastline over time. In Hawaii, in my 64 years I've seen so much!!! There's a lot of evidence of beach erosion and sea surface rise! The predictions for the future are that many coastal areas will be overtaken and people will have to move inland, maybe just a small distance, but over a long time it seems a lot of coastal areas will dissappear!!! The north shore of Oahu where I grew up surfing is very dynamic, because of the Big surf each winter. It's amazing to see how much sand gets moved, often overnight when a really big swell hits. The beaches can change so much overnight it's mind blowing unless you grew up here or have witnessed it yourself. Over my lifetime I've noticed the most radical changes, when we get 3 back to back 30' "Hawaiian" (60 ft. faces) swells with no more than 1-2 days between swells!!! That's when the beach erosion carves out so much sand and beach, with no time between swells for the sand to start coming back in. I've seen it carve out the sand underneath houses till they fall and begin getting destroyed!! The reason the huge boulders were brought in to build the high barrier from off the wall to almost rock piles was after a few winters with massive swells continuously! For those who were on the North Shores of the Hawaiian islands in December of 1969, like I was, it was the biggest I've ever seen the waves get!! The destruction of beaches and houses, including my families was just incredible!!! Yeah, in regards to the classic saying "oh, you should have seen it yesterday" or even an hour ago, is all to common and true!! I much preferred the adventure, after carefully paying attention to the winds and learning to understand them and the weather, and predict when it would produce those perfect offshore winds to make the surf perfect and tubing, then driving to where you first glimpse the ocean and seeing lines stacked to the horizon and smooth perfect conditions and being so stoked as you know it's going to be really good, then enjoying the fruits of your labor to get near perfect waves, and often alone by myself or with a few friends out!!!! Unfortunately that's something that's extremely difficult to experience without crowds these days, or just will never happen again!!! But the waves are still there and get really good, you just have to compete with crowds that are out of control now. At Pipeline for instance, despite the crowds, the locals will always hold it down!!!!. I will say, "you should have been here and seen it 40+ years ago"!!! It was really good, and NO ONE WAS OUT, SURFED IT BY MYSELF FOR HOURS"!! Yeah that saying is a classic!! Too funny. I used to surf with Laird and his brother back when he was probably only 14 years old, and go hiking and just enjoying a very special place, and he was such a fun "kid" to do things with and of course surf, and often surf by ourselves! He was as wild and crazy as you can imagine back then, and I was as a young kid too, but he was at another level!!! Precious memories!!! Been great watching him progress as a waterman and surfer. He's definitely reached "legend" status! There are many of us in Hawaii, carrying the torch for those who did it before us! It honors those before us who we learned from and respected so much. Now I'm watching all my friends kids after seeing them grow up to become the best surfers today, and it's very satisfying to see the level of surfing they're at now!! It's really important, especially in Hawaii, that they have the utmost respect for the older surfers who were doing it long before them, as they watched and learned from us, and I'm proud to see how so many are!! It's deep rooted in the islands, and frankly, respecting your elders should always be done. Sadly, not all do these days, but in Hawaii, especially as they get older they begin to understand how important it is, and it's common! Aloha D.L

It's like surfing 🌊 on " JELL-O". As kids we would surf most south facing beaches along the So. Calif, coast line. Back in the late 60's early 70's lots of kelp grew outside the beach breaks making water look like glass. Sure miss those picture perfect late afternoon surf sessions. Catching wave after wave with hardly a soul except the few guys you were surfing with.
