What a powerful voice! In this one performance, I can see why she was adored and revered to as great an extent as she was and still is! Truly magnificent a performance and performer! Thank you Judy Garland!

You can feel her nerves, she laid back and let Barbra sing. No competition. Beautiful.

She looks really good here. The cameraman was very gentle in his filming. Not sure what kind of filters were used then but it’s lovely and not at all foggy like today.

I saw it an interview Barbra Streisand saying that Judy Garland was the greatest ever, much better than her. It’s true. Judy could make any song her own. Imagine Barbra Streisand doing Old Man River. She has an incredibly beautiful voice, but she could not make this song feel like she was right for it. Judy was right for any song.

Great recording. Thanks. Just wish Johnny wasn't playing so hard on the piano. It's supposed to be a soft ballad.

The fact this aired in 1963 and Funny Girl didn’t come out until 1968 is crazy
@wotan1095016 күн бұрын
She was talking about the Broadway show Funny Girl (1964), not the movie version (1968).
@DeepScreenAnalysis14 күн бұрын
They are talking about Funny Girl the Broadway stage musical, which came out in 1964 starring Barbra.

I regret that I have probably already seen all of Eleanor Powell's movie dances. I'd love to again have the thrill of seeing them for the first time.

What I love is the emotion she brings every time she steps on stage. There’s 2 worlds for her, the real one, and the one where she let her emotions go and sings completely from her heart. A true artist and musician.

Does the kind of interlacing seen at 0:38 have a name? I've only ever seen it like this in one other clip, the choreography for "Turkey Lurkey Time" from _Promises, Promises_ in 1968, which was so fab that when they performed it on the Tonys the audience started applauding madly before they even finished.

When we were kids in the 1960s we watched variety shows like this every night. Along with westerns and classic sitcoms. Even the commercials were great. It was a much better time for the USA and people were more responsible, kind and respectful. Not like the crap on 21st century tv.
