What type of glue is that? Is glue like this basically the best method for small cracks like this? Also, I've got a vintage Greenback that somehow got a tiny hole in the cone, just a hair bigger than say a safety pin, and the good news is it's a perfect little hole, not sure how I did it, but any suggestions on how to patch it? Just a dab of glue hah? Also, what is the thinking on, say a speaker had some rips, or cracks, whats the consensus on using some actual material of some sort, vs just glue, or other adhesives?

As alternative to use a knife to remove the badge I was told to try with a (guitar?) metal string. It should work too... maybe even better (and more safely). Opinions?

Have a pair of KEF 104/2 and one speaker doesn't work. It won't 'Tone' for continuity. Will end up opening it up and doing a visual. Wondering if I test the crossover plus(+) minus(-), if it tones out then there is an 'Open' short somewhere. If the crossover doesn't 'Tone', then that's should be where the issue lies. Would I be correct? Anyone here reading this, any input is very much appreciated. Soon to be (in 21 days) 63yo 'Wanna Be' Audiophile from the SF Bay Area, Ca. Speakers owned: KEF 104/2, KEF C80/Series2, Jamo Classic 8, Klipsch Heresy (1978) Many Amplifiers, mostly Sony ES TA-E9000es, TA-N9000es, DA4es, Yamaha CA800 just to name a few.

Do you have any suggestions on how to remove a dustcap on a late 40's 12" Bell and Howell Jensen? I bought one of those Filmosound cabinets that was water damaged for practically nothing for the speaker which I wanted to restore on the cheap. There was some rust and the person who owned it tried to remover the speaker which the cone partially stuck to the baffle. since the cone was basically torn into two piece I hoped to repair it but I don't believe this is possible or sensible. I have an intact spider and voice coil and bought a replacement paper cone. I "think" the best way is to remover the remnants of the cone and the dust cover but I am having trouble removing the dust cover so I can shim the Voicecoil before glueing the surround of the cone to the basket. I have wondered if I should just glue the new cone to the spider and use a battery to space the V.C. while glueing the spider and then the cone. Any suggestions?

Sad that you won't have the chance to hear them after the repairs . . . they have a degree of potential :-) IF angels come to your rescue and the DIF situation changes in your house and allows you to keep them, I'd highly recommend that you don't mess with them and see if you can send them back to SoundLab for a refurbish and an update on the transformers - they APPEAR as though they have seen better days and may be past their "due date" :-) Best of luck !!!

With veneer lifting along a split like that you can just use a little PVA glue like you did , put a piece of paper over it and iron over it. It will set immediately and be ready for finishing work.

Show Bags - Over rated, Over priced and full of shit. The design of these is fundamentally flawed in so many ways, especially that stupid 'doughnut' foam. When it degrades and disintegrates it falls into the gap. KEF cheaped out using a pressed sheet metal basket on these woofers that perhaps need the coupling rod, and hence the need for that stupid inner foam.... so much for the F (foundry) in the KEF name, eh. I seriously question the replacement of electrolytic based on maintaining the 'original sound'. MKP are far superior in every way.

I got one of these about a year ago but mine has the more squared cabinet/baffle and looks a bit bigger. Someone re-foamed it sometime along its life and they did a pretty good job. The speaker sounds really nice. I wish I could find a mate to it but it would be by chance. Sounds great with my G.E. mono tube amp and mono records.
