Don’t be the guy who complains to the ref about every call or no call. During warmups, make eye contact with the goalie and then shoot at the pads. You are warming them up, not trying to blast it past their head.

A good entree into a so called 'closed league' is to contact the organizer through the arena where league time has been booked and get on their 'spares' list. Not every team player can make every game. There are people out sick or away om vacation etc. A spot needs to be filled and the organizer is glad to have a list of people he (or she) can call at the last minute to fill in. That way teams get to know you and you them. When a full-timer drops out to retirement, move away, loss of interest and so on, their spot is generally filled by a 'spare' or a 'sub' they already know and like. Worked for me. Good luck!.

at which point is the offside called? players or player in zone, where does the puck have to be for the whistle to stop the play? fully off blue line into offensive zone OR breaking the blueline/offensive zone plane?

What if they dump it in and it’s on net? It’s not an intention to score so should you count it. Also what if it goes it? It wasn’t an intention to score but it went in the net so is it a shot?

I’m so grateful I started skating and playing hockey at the tender age of 4. I play adult recreational hockey now and I don’t feel I’m starting from the beginning, but I do work on “the basics”. Practice makes better 100%

Great video! No neck guard? I would suggest using separate towels for sweat and wiping skates. Lots of gross bio hazards in ice! 🇨🇦👍🏻🇨🇦

In one game my kid face 6 break aways and came out aggressively which resulted in the shooters shooting wide. Without him there those are clear goals but for the purpose of stats I have assumed they are not considered shots on goal. Is that correct?

My buddies team never had a problem with having beer after the game. It rotated and everybody took a turn bringing the beer. It never failed because they had a strictly enforced team rule. If you showed up on your turn to bring the beer and you didn't bring the beer, then they wouldn't let you play that night. For about twenty years they played like this and had beer after every game. It never failed even once.

Don't chirp the refs. They will remember you, and not in a good way. Talk to your captain or GM and have them respectfully talk to the referee between periods or after the game.

I am a 22 year old student living in the UK. I remember coming across a random Mcdavid reel few months ago and OMG it felt like my heart would come out of my chest. Love at first sight lol. I bought my own skates and started learning skating which i never did before in my life. Learning as an adult was truly humbling. I started stickhandling off the ice so i dont loose my confidence when i get on the ice and give up forever (which is still very likely). Hockey is honestly a hard sport... Hats off to anyone who started as an adult and never gave up! I look upto you. I dont know how many years will it take me to get somewhat decent but i pray I at least dont give up.

I discovered your video and channel, great stuff! I personally played beer league for a couple of years out in San Diego, and I have a couple of unwritten/written rules combined. My first team was very toxic and treated the game like it was the NHL/AHL whatever HL other than Beer League, it was miserable especially towards me who was just starting to play the game and been wanting to play my whole life only to almost have it shattered because of how I was being treated by my first team due to the amount of crap I had to put up with and the isolation I felt. My second team was a lot better and they're one of my best friends just to lighten my story up. Back to my first team, one of the worst things they did was they brought down players from Division 2 (my league was sorted in divisions 1-5 which was based on skill level) just so that they can win games and at one point one of the head players of said team stopped the game once just to yell at us because of how we were playing. Anyways, that unwritten rule is treat your teammates well and help them with improving their skills along with your own. Next rule I have, and this is cut and dry, we had a lot of players from different teams maliciously body checking people into the boards up to where a guy I knew wounded up in the ER with broken ribs and a concussion because of that. Not to mention it was a no check league so bottom line is do not check nor be that guy who wants to cause trouble on the ice.

As a travel coach. "Crossovers" are taught wrong. I have had tremendous success teaching skaters of all ages to have the inside leg push under. Call them "push unders" for new skaters. Lifting a leg while keeping balance and going around a circle is challenging for new skaters, but having them change their train of thought to something tjat sounds easier could aid in learning a pretty integral piece of being a great skater.

I played on a coed American/Canadian/German beer league team in Germany. I feel like it was more of a cultural thing but men were naked and nobody made a big deal. I personally prefer to shower at home but I did feel comfortable enough to get down to my skivvies to change into sweats. In addition to communicating w/ teammates, read the room and do what you feel comfortable with

It's a good idea to. Believe it or not, Ice Hockey is one of the sweatiest smelliest sports there are. No other sport really compares to it in that aspect. I've heard people try to argue different, but those people haven't been exposed the funk.

You are correct. As a goalie, I am a nerd for stats - GAA, save percentage, shots on goal,... then it went from there about my personal game to remember stats of the other team's players, where they shot from, how they shoot, etc,... funny thing is that it never clouded my head or was a distraction. I would remember it and then write it down after to keep track.

How can you not understand the math of cycling vs lines? If a line changes every 2 minutes or so..and you have two lines...then you rest about 2 minutes. I you are cycling through ten players then A player comes off every 2 minutes or so. Not three at a time. Duh.
@beginneradulthockey
@beginneradulthockey 3 ай бұрын
But it never works that way. Some people stay out 5 minutes, sometimes 5 people come off at the same time and sometimes you sit for minutes and minutes because no one is coming off at all. It’s always different. Thanks for the helpful comment 😀
@papat7435

@@beginneradulthockey Nope. You said cycling vs a line change. Cycling you just wait your turn so you have to wait for everyone ahead of you to get on. This is ALWAYS going to take longer than line changes.

I would like to remind everyone about number 5. Short shifts....down and back once maybe twice. That's it. I tell my teammates "we need you for the whole game" "not a 5 minute shift in the first period". If you are tired......get off the ice.

41 here. Started skating Nov ‘23, 7 months later I joined summer adult league. Wasn’t very effective but I was there playing against high school kids and beer leaguers alike. I now help coach 8U and 10U and assist learn to play hockey from 4-12. Point is, it’s never too late to learn. Old dogs still can learn new tricks. I ditched my ego and took advices from young guns and vets. First thing I did was establish correct mindset which was to empty my cup so I can put new water in. Then practiced my skating skills get better at it to where I subconsciously skate without thinking what to do next. And then learn to skate with stick and puck with my 8yo who plays in 10U travel AA. Goodluck to those who just started.

Great video as always! One thiing about females and jills is I would recommend wearing a female cup because if you get hit there with a puck or stick it will hurt a lot as it is still a sensitive area.
