I watched these videos before my Aortic root and valve replacement and it was so helpful. Your experience mirrored mine almost perfectly., although I spent one more day in hospital. After watching your journey I knew what to expect and it was a lot less intimidating. I also felt like I'd been hit by a truck that first night after surgery but I kept telling myself I knew what to expect and that in a couple of days I would walking around the ward. I would recommend this video to anyone who is facing open heart surgery. Thank you Scott.

If I wasn’t so horrified, I would be laughing at your wife’s sweet comment that you had a “little bit” a rough night. Those first three days are the reason I would rather they let me go then crack my chest.

Very interesting, although not very unexpected that very few patients in your situation post about the first three days. From all that I have read and heard those days can be absolutely horrific. I’ve always been concerned about very invasive surgeries such as this, but my concern has magnified, many times since so called opioid/opiate crisis . I would have to be assured that my team was not afraid to liberally prescribe. I hope you are doing well.

3 years post-op....I'm worst now than before I had surgery. I tried to mow my lawn today. I fell to the ground after 30 seconds. I wish I never had that operation.....my sternum has never recovered. I want to die but haven't the courage.

Been there man. no worries. It's all a process. I've had 4 aortic heart surgeries 1 as a child and 3 as an adult and the processes is the same. Go for walks and sleep, man. That's all you need to do.

Have you had surgery before this time? Was it only your aortic valve that was replaced? Glad you are ok!
@tamalac51702 жыл бұрын
Please be aware that open heart surgery changes you emotionally, you will find yourself with less patience and tolerance for matters that are not of real significance to life. Understand this, it is an awakening, not a bad thing.
@tamalac51702 жыл бұрын
My open heart surgery to replace my aortic valve was nine days in hospital, six weeks recovery, but I should have waited longer to go back to work. Was not ready for the emotional stress roller coaster of the office, so I ended up transferring to a lower stress, but just as good paying job.

I hope your doing well. My root is dilated at 3.5 does it take time for these to grow? It was discovered two years ago on a cat scan when I was in hospital very sick. Both my brother and mother had adnominal aortas. Take Care.

As far as I am aware, the biological valves are usual in people over 65. Why did choose the biological ones?
