JKM, I just got mine. I am building the first sled now. I’m planning on using the jig and sled I am building now to build a 45 deg miter sled and a shooting board that is truly square. I’ll use the shooting board off-cut as a bench hook. I anticipate eventually using the jig to eventually build a mitering shooting board. The ability to create a truly square fence to an edge is a timesaver and only adds to accuracy.

Douglas Fir? That grain is actually one of my favorites even if its not appreciated by most. Did you do anything prior to staining to prevent blotchiness?

Does the 'straightness' of the rails not matter? What about the flatness of the work surface? I'm not knocking you, but I'm so confused as to how this works if all 3 things aren't aren't at least close to perfectly flat.

I decided against a router sled and attempt to build one with an elec hand planer. The knives are wider than any router bit and a router has so many different uses while a planer does one thing! But one thing I still have to figure out, the router you put in a tray but making attachments for the plane can be tricky! Any advice from the community?

Well, it’s kind of hard to visually show how smooth something feels to the touch. But, if you haven’t tried it - Next time you are finishing something - after your last layer of topcoat, buff it out with a brown paper bag and I promise you’ll be able to feel a difference then 👍🏻

ah, ever since seeing this dovetail bench i have thought "wow that's cool, i really want it" but something in the back of my mind has said "this is a gimmick, no f-ing good at all"... and i think i have realised what it is. you need a clean bench to make use of it because they have to slide over the whole surface from edge to where it needs to go. my bench (and be honest, your bench too) is absolutely covered in shit all the time.

@13:43, you used the clamp in vertical way to clamp three pieces of wood like that is not strong. It has tendency to break the vertical board slot easily because there was nothing to press against the slot, where the tongue of the clamp was mounted. The technique to use these clamp in correct way is an object has to be against the slot. Anyway, very nice build. Please note, this is not a criticized, it is a learning process to make thing better. I’ve learned something from your build as well. Thank you.
