Depending on the situation time can be helpful, as different aircraft or helicopter travel at different speeds. For example a jet could travel 10 nm in ~3 min. but a light aircraft could take ~8 min or whatever. If other aircraft monitor the frequency and want to land at the same airport they know how many minutes they need to arrive. But in other situations a specific location can make more sense, for example when a controller asks for the present position.

Where do you suggest I look for an aircraft that says they are xx minutes from an airport? Do you suggest I ask the aircraft how fast they are going, and then do the necessary math to determine where the aircraft is located so I can get a visual? Waste of precious time. Or how about we conform to ICAO standard practices and use miles in the terminal area? #1. Other traffic do not have to do math to figure out where you may be. #2 non standard phrases lead to confusion. #3. Aircraft will arrive at an airport when they arrive, that’s what pattern entry’s and callouts are for, starting 10 MILES from an airport. If nothing else, ask yourself why ALL the other aircraft announced positions in miles and not minutes. Nice video otherwise.

Wir sind kürzlich nach LIPV geflogen. Die Route war ungefähr von LOLT direkt zur Grenze neben LOKN, dann im Sinkflug Richtung LIKH, ab dort sind wir den Tagliamento entlang geflogen bis Caorle. Bei Aviano Approach haben wir vorher eine Freigabe eingeholt um durch den Aviano Luftraum zu fliegen. Das hat alles gut geklappt, Aviano hatte keinen Verkehr und war sehr freundlich.
