@matttinklermusicКүн бұрын
Sorry you found this boring! I tried to condense as much info on drum rack as possible into an easy to follow video, and because it's such a deep instrument it just has to get a bit geeky. How would you like to see a video like this structured? :)
@johnqpublic4662Күн бұрын
@@matttinklermusic Sorry I lost my temper, and thank you for responding constructively. I am super frustrated with Ableton as an organization. I watch these videos because Live’s documentation sucks. Live 12 comes with a ton of preset drum racks, and none of them explain how they work. When you add the macro controls on the top of the instrument pads on top of an effects bus that has numerous effects in it, some of which are subject to automation, you end up with four or five levels of complexity. It would be extremely useful on the preset drum racks to simply explain what each of the elements does, and how to figure out what’s going on. Almost all of the most important controls are hidden all the time. Ableton doesn’t even tell you how to access the hidden controls. Drum rack in Live 12 is a mystery wrapped in a riddle inside an enigma.
@matttinklermusicКүн бұрын
@@johnqpublic4662 No need to apologise! I 100% agree with your frustration about the lack of documentation. The fact that the user manual hasn't been updated for Live 12 yet is frankly unacceptable. Drum rack can be pretty confusing, especially with the macros on presets! Think of macros as just controls that the people who have designed the preset think are useful to be able to tweak. Sometimes they can be quite complicated in terms. of how they're mapped though, so as you say diving into the rack can be very confusing, especially for beginners! Because of this I really recommend moving to making your own drum racks and away from the preset instruments, so that you can get comfortable with the structure of the instrument and learn how you can edit the presets. If you have any specific questions, I'm happy to try and help! :)
@johnqpublic4662Күн бұрын
@@matttinklermusic Thanks for the advice! I tried making my own, but gave up quickly, probably because they weren’t as loud and punchy, because the presets use things like Drum Buss. Basically, you need to be able to reverse engineer the presets to know what to do with your own drum rack!

Also, if you use different time signatures from scene to scene in session view and you build up a song that gets very involved, Ableton CANT SYNC and will crash over and over. Why can't I have the stability and availability to create what ever format of time signatures I want in seasion view? (Which i use more as an arrangement view) In fact I think they have the naming of the two views backwards. I do all of my arranging in session view and make final global tweaks to my session in arrangement view. But do ZERO arranging in arrangement view. Ughhhhh Either way, just make switching scene to scene with different time signatures more stable in 'seasion' view.
@IamSavoiiMusic14 күн бұрын
For the love of God Ableton, please just expand the available collections list/colors to AT LEAST TWICE of what it is right now. So its 7 or 8 right now? Make it 16 or 20. This is a HUGE organization thing. It would make such a difference. I cant seem to make the new navigator menu work they way a VERY SIMPLE list with color coding woukd work. Man, its so obvious and so easy. JUST DO IT!!!!

@zeitakulobusta97086 күн бұрын
@@matttinklermusic I wouldn't even call it a feature, every other daw and linear video app under the sun has had this since dinosaurs roamed the earth...even Mac Finder lets you grab non-contiguous items in a list. And it not only can't do it, it hacks and mangles other regions if you try. It's like having a gas car with no petrol cap and it just keeps sloshing out and Ableton just keep ignoring it while they're busy putting fairy lights on the roof. That and the inability to nudge regions by a preset amount ie tick, 1/8 bar etc...mind-blowing.

@@matttinklermusic it's common, at least with the M3 Macs. The CPU spikes randomly in Ableton where an empty project will use up to 80% or more of the CPU, spiking in waves/cycle. It's the way that Ableton is using the 2 cores. Doesn't happen all the time but enough to make one not want to use the program. Considering FL Studio, Studio One and even Logic don't do it says to me its a coding issue. I expected to have such grand experience when I got my M3 mac MBP. Definitely not the case with Ableton.
