Awesome story man! I met Gary quite a few times at various of his gigs and there was one time in 2019 when I was actually able to have a proper conversation with him, I spoke to him about me covering some of his songs on my iPad through the GarageBand app. I would effectively reconstruct the song from top to bottom to the best of my ability, and I showed him some of them and he was genuinely very impressed! I showed him how to replace the Vox Humana Minimoog sound that he’s of course famous for and he said to me that Persia had recently got an iPad of her own so he was gonna steal it and use that to help him write when not in the studio when an idea comes up. As a fellow musician who has idolised Numan from birth pretty much, to think that I’ve been able to help and influence him with his music is amazing to me!

On “We Are Glass” the drums have a bit of gated reverb specially on the overheads and a tiny bit on the snare. As for the effect that you ask about, from the sounds of it there’s a subtle chorus and flanger effect that goes at the same rate as the tempo of the track so it doesn’t fall out of time with everything else on the track. I think the acoustic drums are also layered with a drum machine too which also have a subtle flanger effect on it too. The hand claps on the choruses are heavily overdriven on the point of distortion as well as being mixed with the big reverby sound to make for the industrial big warehousey reverb effect similar to that of the clap sound used on Metal from The Pleasure Principle. Out of all of Numans albums, Telekon is definitely up there with the best produced ones of his output! No wonder it’s considered one of his best, if you ask me it’s one of the best albums of all time!

The 14" & 16" hanging toms were concert toms, & on the 18" floor Cedric removed the bottom head & rim, so the whole Tama fibrestar 9 toms were concert toms! 👍

I'd subscribed to your channel yesterday, had watched three videos on it - and only _now_ do I find out you're Siouxsie's drummer! 😅 Anyway, I'm very pleased for you having met your very first idol! 😊 Exactly - No photos necessary while this wonderful moment will be stored in your memory forever! 😉 And I've been very much enjoying your content so far 😀👍 In regards to Cedric Sharpley: Did he also play on Visage's song 'Mind Of A Toy'? I noticed that the snare drum on Numan's 'M.E.' sounds quite similar 😀 Greetings from New Zealand! 👋😊

Cedric was also a founder member of 70s prog band Druid. They made two albums - 'Toward the Sun' and 'Fluid Druid'. Just prior to Druid's demise, I bought (their keyboard player) Andrew McCrorie Shand's Minimoog - so got to meet the band. Cedric said he had something big in the pipeline - but was unable to discuss it publicly. We now know what that gig was! In whatever musical genre he played, Cedric was indeed an excellent, underrated drummer.

Cedric joined Tubeway Army and elevated the band into new heights singlehandedly. After he left Gary's career nosedived soon.

I was a heavy metal guy through and through when I discovered Gary's music. I bought Replicas on a whim after seeing the album art. I was so intrigued I had to invvestigate. It was like nothing I'd ever heard before. Headphones were mandatory. He still sounds amazing todaay as well.

Seen gary in Belfast a few weeks ago doing the replica and pleasure principle..Cedric has always been a massive influence on me too. His drumming on the live album Skin Mechanic from 89 is a master class. Cheers..rik

Great to hear it went well, but unfortunately I couldn't make it. Hopefully Ian and Andy will carry on offering drum clinics in Shrewsbury, they were always well attended when I used to run The Drum Korner, many moons ago.... Ps: what a surprise to see a Neu album in the background!!!

Ceds drumming to me had a subtlety to it which went under the radar of the synths, but once you listened to it in isolation it gave the songs so much depth

I can’t believe it’s been a year already!! It’s so great to hear your experience of the gig. I traveled almost 4,000km to see Siouxsie at Cruel World. Siouxsie is and will always be my No. 1 (Bowie is a close second but no one can top my love for her) and I had never gotten to see her live - I’m on the younger side so wasn’t around for the Banshees. I was front row on Saturday and was absolutely devastated when it was cancelled but oh boy did you lot delivered on Sunday! Such an amazing set: Siouxsie was on top form, the band sounded amazing and super tight. Top notch drumming ! Getting to hear Night Shift, Lands End and then Israel as an encore was truly awesome. Thank you for staying and playing on Sunday. It was literally a dream come true. Ps: awesome Overlook Hotel cushion.
