For me: 200K baht and 5 baht gold, plus paying for the wedding. My wife's family is rural Isaan and her Dad died many years ago. So, it is just her aging Mom and her 13-year-old son whom her mom has raised. I can hear everyone screaming "don't pay a thing; she didn't go to university, already has a kid", I shouldn't pay for wedding since I paid sin sod, etc. etc. But here's the thing: they have zero money and it is peanuts to me. The 200K baht will pay off an agricultural debt at the bank. The have never owned gold before. My wife's best friend growing up next door got 200K baht, so it is important for my wife's mom to get the same to save face (even though neighbor's daughter went to university and didn't have a kid prior). My wife is wonderful, and I couldn't be happier. So, it's all OK. They can have the money and the gold. I'm happy to be with her and help her family.

"You have to fight for a taxi at Phuket Airport." I use Grab. I found the Bangkok airport too busy compared to Phuket's Airport. I am Hua Hin now, and I am trying to determine if I want to live/retire in Phuket or Hua Hin. So far, Phuket is winning. 😝Traveling to Hua Hin from the Airport is a big negative. I like Hua Hin because of the much lower prices.
