There is starting to be a common thread to these rescues, each of the last few I have reviewed have shown people not stepping up into their life raft. But rather electing to leave their boat half way across an ocean that in hind sight was not necessary. Diverting cargo ships and crews to come to peoples aid is a very serious and expensive serious matter and should not be asked for unless the boat your on is slipping below the waves. To ask to be rescued because your worried about your children's safety suggests to me irresponsible parents, that will ruin it for everyone as it will eventually force governments to get involved and do the safety thinking for people..... Remember the correct way to enter a life boat or life raft is when you need to step up into it!

Sorry if anyone has said. What boat is that? Looks like a Beneteau or similar. Not going to be a great advert for the anti ‘production boat’ lobby. I am guessing no skeg? Also the great thing with a Hydrovane is a second rudder with an emergency tiller.

Big ocean racing events have required tested backup rudder systems for the racers. Loosing a rudder happens more than most people realize. Especially in big ocean crossings. There have been several good cruising boats lost due to broken rudder tubes- with flooding and or just broken rudders. This isn’t a criticism its a suggestion that cruisers look at what racers have developed for rudder solutions and adapt something and test it in rough conditions before doing big crossings. If you need it you’ll be very happy you had it. If you don’t need it you’ll be very happy knowing you had it if you needed it.

15 bucks to make bro sewing machine cost 220 fabric 20 bucks a yard materials 20 bucks etc learning how to sew 100 for a class. Total 360.00 and your cryng over 80 swim suits.

You are confusing fixed costs and variable costs. My sewing machine was $200. True. But I’ve had it for 5 years and it’s made countless things. Learning to sew was free using online resources. Patterns cost money, but you can make multiple items from one pattern. The cost of the fabric and your time ultimately ends up being the biggest factor. Swim fabric ranges from $5 to $30 a yard. For me, I usually need half a yard for a suit (sometimes less, sometimes more). The math often doesn’t work for sewing your own clothes vs buying, but sometimes (especially with bathing suits) it’s really nice to make your own.

If you make it to Jamaica you might be able to check out some old school Reggae at the beach bars of Negril beach, Westmoreland. I saw Ziggy Marley, Big Youth and others.I would not recommend smoking though, please don't swim out to the static rafts out at sea either for your own safety
