Because genetically ancient Egyptians were not the same people as modern Egyptians. Nor are their beliefs. The ancients were advanced both societally and technologically, the modern are neither, and in fact are more primitive than the ancients were.

sadam had enough oil 🛢 in his country to develop his country. then he decided to fight a 10 year war with iran. another stupid decision was to imvade kuwait. qadafi used oil to help his countrymen. then he started meddling in other countries & was lynched in the streets.

1 Because they are not yet in the EU; 2 Because the developed world exploits them, demonises them, occupied them, fought wars all over them, invaded them, undermined their regimes, assassinated their leaders, colonised them, and then put a hostile Israel in the middle of them. All things considered, Muslim countries do well.

Gutenberg did not invent the printing press. He invented moveable letters, which made printing text a lot easier. Before that, printing presses used wood carvings or copper engravings as masters.

There is something to be considered in the climate argument: the environment of the middle east has never favoured productivity: working in extreme heat for 8 months a year is bound to slow down not only productivity but also motivation. Combine the environment factor with the emphasis on religious adherence and its overbearing restrictions and the answer is apparent.

@bdcochran0122 сағат бұрын
I will explain, in a more kindly fashion. You have to give up assumptions and ideology. 1. There have always been slaves, colonies, subsidence farmers. There have always been sex gender divisions of work and communities. 2. Yes, I am older. I have seen professional letter writers/readers sitting on the street in Pakistan, the old man telling stories in the market place to children for a fee in Morocco, the restaurant refusing service to a woman who would sit alone. I can also relate to you that I asked my late wife if she wanted an order of emancipation which was then available under California law, that the State of Washington forbade women to be in a bar without an escort and my mother and the local women calling up the county sheriff and inviting him to come arrest them. So, I have seen a lot. 3. The printing press made a difference, but not immediately. I looked up the statistics. A lot of books were printed immediately, but the literacy rate did not shoot up. Even among people who were engaged in international trade. It took a couple of generations. 4. Now there is a statistic that reflects a difference. It is the literacy rate among women. I will use the American term and not the British meaning of "public education". It did not become mandatory for both sexes in GB until about 1900. However, by the 1800s, there was a relatively high rate of literacy among women. Why? How? Cultural. 5. I have a friend who is second generation American. His parents made a lot of money and a bit got passed on to him. He lives in a multi-million dollar home. He has a high school education. He had a very modest business before he retired. With 5 children, only graduated from high school. Why? Because all of them went into the small family business. They didn't need an education to survive. Cultural. If one had a problem, the rest of the family was expected to step in and help. 6. So there I am in the Valley of Death in southern Morocco. I reflect that wherever the Muslim religion goes, it is thousands of years of a dark period, as it is practiced. Women marginalized in opportunities and education. 50 years ago, I was in Afghanistan. Some women were attending Kabul University. Under the current religious control, women are not allowed to go to school. At first, they would be not allowed to take certain classes. Now, it is any class. And the dark cloud descends upon the economy. 7. The other cultural aspect is indoctrination. No society really wants an educational system that invites young people to question assumptions and what is taught and who is taught. The world isn't perfect. In a religious or non religious totalitarian state, it is worse for the economy and the individuals. Some of the European states are free from it. Conversely, it is ok in some Muslim countries to throw a homosexual off a roof or lash a woman in the streets from wearing the wrong clothes.

Colonial rule is the main culprit. Subjugation of the citizens and exploitive slavery work and ripping off the natural resources, paying them meagre wages. No means to educations and spartan livelihoods. It always takes an educated native with oversea education abroad and back to the motherland to reform and waking up to self-rule. Some turned to being unscrupulous puppet rulers. It is a cruel reality.

They are poor because they are extremely conservative, with laws at preventing progress, freedom, critical thought, and individuality. Conservative countries end up with a few extremely wealthy people, but with most people poor. Unfortunately, the US just decided those characteristics are something to emulate.
