When BA were the best. Much prefer this older livery than the current one on their aircraft.

Thank you for sharing this great video. I do miss flying the 747-400s cross country and over the Pacific. I know our airlines here in the States have retired them so, the 777-300s are the next best aircraft. I miss flying the 747-400s to Hong Kong from Chicago. Those were some long-haul flights to remember!! Even though I am a former Purser Flight Attendant, I still have some friends who still fly and I stay in contact with them. And I stay see a few 747s fly over but many of them are cargo ones. And I still see Lufthansa Airline 747-800 fly over me here in Chicago.😊

Thats a fighter that can start off a street, and can go almost to orbit. Yet they want some expensive USA sh!t that is barely useable.

A lovely documentary, only to be let down by how much the director/narrator shows dislike towards pilots. It’s a wonderfully varied, complex and responsible role that ironically can only truly be understood by another pilot.

The last BA 747 I flew on was out of HKG pre covid. As always, a great experience and the Cabin Crew always made the flight that little bit more enjoyable. Shame they've all been grounded now, a 747 in BA livery was a sight to behold.

I flew a lot all over the world with BA in the early 90s. Excellent service then a real premium airline - I even flew Concorde which was a massive halo for them. Now they are just another below average airline.

Flying via Moscow in 1970? I think routes over Russia only opened post dissolution of the USSR.
@Ben-xe8psАй бұрын
This video shows a flight in 1990 not 1970, but to address your point about 1970, flying via Moscow was possible in 1970, just heavily restricted. For example, on the route to Tokyo, certain European airlines, including BA, AF, LH and others plus JL, were allowed to operate flights from Europe to TYO via MOW (Trans-Siberian route). There were however restrictions and conditions. Firstly, Aeroflot had to be given identical traffic rights with an identical frequency and aircraft size. For that reason, as Aeroflot operated IL62's, the European carriers and JL had to use 707's or DC8's and were never permitted to use wide body aircraft. Secondly, Aeroflot had to be given traffic rights to operate through same flight-number flights from the European capitals to TYO creating the highly unusual situation of an SU through flight with one flight number operating LHR-MOW-TYO (as opposed to offering a transfer connection with change of flight number at MOW). Thirdly, the aircraft had to land at MOW. Fourthly, the number of flights permitted to each airline was limited to (I think) 2 per-week. These conditions were eased during the 1980's. In 1989 I flew LHR-TYO non-stop on JAL on a 747-300 routed across the USSR.

@@Ben-xe8ps I didn't know that. Don't know why I thought it was 1970 and not 1990. Perhaps because it all looks so old fashioned now, especially having a third dedicated flight engineer. But a 747-200 would have been old in 1990 as the 747-400 was available by then.
@Ben-xe8psАй бұрын
@@grahamcook9289 The thing that initially surprised me here was the non-stop operation LHR-BKK. Any time I have flown on a 747-200 to SE Asia there has always been an intermediate stop, in the Gulf or Indian subcontinent. I didn't realise that non-stop operation had commenced by BA prior to introduction of the 747-400's. I wonder if that could be connected to the easing of restrictions by the USSR allowing the flights to operate via a shorter route and therefore making non-stop 747-200 operation viable?
