The Hunter howl at 1:18 - lovely - we were always told this was caused by airflow over the cannon ports.

I believe it's the shape of the engine inlet on the wings, the same reason the Vulcan has the howl.

SIR SYDNEY CAMM YOUR A TRUE LEGEND MAY BLUE SKIES MAY BE WITH YOU FOR EVER .

Where we spent our holidays when I was a child we used to hear the Hunters as they practised firing their guns at ground targets on the coast. Great sound of them roaring into the target.

A truly beautiful bird, one of the most perfect designed Fighter jets, yes it's old generation, i am not referring to it's capability by today's standards but just the sheer elegance of the design....I believe it was Sir Sydney Camm who designed it, the same man who designed the often forgotten Battle of Britain 'Other' fighter, The famous Hawker Hurricane! Camm also designed the Typhoon and Tempest plus the Sea Fury too., and was involved in the initial harrier ancestor the P1127/Kestrel. Hawker got it right with this Post war Jet unlike supermarine who undoubtedly had the 'winner' with the Spitfire but when it came to jets not so good, the much maligned supermarine swift being a prime example. The Hunter visually and the sound of the famous 'Blue' noise was without equal. From a time when Britain actually made aircraft! The UK today is a service industry economy and financial management (banking) country...nothing is made here any more oh except a couple of aircraft carriers (which prove the UK still could be a manufacturing power house if it had the right leadership, ah well, One can dream. ?

@@richardweldon2062 The Hawker Hunters have served in the Indian Air Force and has shown marvellous performance in 1965 and 1971 Indo Pak Wars. These big yet highly manoeuvrable jet has a good history in the Indian Air Force. They later on became the IAF's first aerobatic team, the Black Thunderbolts. Marvellous British fighter, also termed as the gentleman's plane.

I read about four IAF Hawker Hunters at the battle of Longewala in 1971, where they were effective in stopping the advancing Pakistani tanks and infantry. 36 tanks were destroyed then.
@pranaysingh36173 жыл бұрын
@@grzegorzkowalski5100 yes, you're right. These aircrafts were highly effective against much swifter Sabre jets. The PAF faced lot of trouble downing these jets during 1971 war.

The Hunter was a great aircraft. Hawker should have made a naval “Sea Hunter” variant for the Royal Navy carriers. 🇬🇧

Being a ground attack aircraft, I'd say the sound alone would be enough to disperse the enemy. That jet has the character that only raf airplanes have.

I see it has a very similar intake and aero to the Vulcan bomber and they have very similar howls, I wonder if there's correlation there?
