Just out of interest, why are you spacing the hammers with the action out of the piano? surely it's better to space the hammers with the action in so you can make sure they are hitting all 3 strings?
@churtonparkpianos4240Ай бұрын
As there were only a few out of alignment, it didn't matter. When it comes to tuning it I can re address it, turns out they were all fine. On my previous video (school piano Rescue), I took all the hammers out to fix the loop cords so realigned them whilst in the piano.

I’ve never really encountered a Welmar I didn’t like.
@chriswalden6519Ай бұрын
I most certainly have! they're not all good
@churtonparkpianos4240Ай бұрын
The first Welmar I obtained was a school piano which has safety castors on it. I think it was 4th or 5th piano collection so was still learning. Anyway, I attended the school, full of confidence and started to lift the piano in order to get on its end. Didn't realize how heavy it was and half way through lifting it, almost giving myself a hernia, the castors (which were installed incorrectly too close to the edge of the piano) were still on the floor and the piano slipped away from me. I couldn't stop it in time and it crashed into the wall leaving a massive dent in the plaster/sheetrock! Fortunately for me, the teacher was only concerned for my wellbeing and wasn't bothered about the hole. 😳

Can you give me advice just today I got a free Baldwin acrosonic spinet piano, going to fix it up. I didn’t look much to see what will need to be done from what I looked it just needs a good cleaning and tuning, but when I pressed down a couple of the keys on the piano it doesn't come up, I'm thinking it might be due to dirt or objects stuck underneath it, im not sure
@churtonparkpianos4240Ай бұрын
@@Joyfulkeysinstrumental-lu5ri hey, firstly try a hair dryer or heat gun. Most of the time, sluggish keys have a bit of damp which need to be cleared. Blast the area for a few mins repeatedly pressing the keys. If that doesn't work, determine whether the key is sluggish or the action. Get your finger under the wippen and lift and see whether or not the hammer returns normally. If it does, it's the key. Wippen/hammer. Take them out and test them for stiffness. If stiff on the joint, you'll need to remove the flange pins and install smaller ones. You can buy sets of flange pins for a few dollars from alibaba. You'll also need a pin extractor and flush cut cutters. If it's the key, remove and squish the balance rail felt (top middle) and the felt under the key. There is a special tool for this also. You can also use a small round file and clean out the hole under the middle of the key that sits on the balance rail and clean the pin with metal polish or wd40 if it's already clean. That should solve any sluggish behaviour. Howard piano industries have created videos for both of these issues. Good luck! Andy

Most people who play the piano can't tear them apart, restore, and tune them! Very interesting to watch someone who literally knows the instrument inside and out restore, and at the end demonstrate how well the instrument sounds! Loved the E.T score!

What a beautiful upright. The black upright my mom got me to learn on took two visits by the tuner as it was so far out. Why would you throw away that beauty because of a dead mouse? You don’t burn your house down if theres a mouse in it. Neat video. It sounds great.

I would really like to see you address the Balance Rail punchings and then the Front Rail punchings and how you measure the associated distances, choose the correct thickness of the various paper punchings and set each one correctly throughout. I have a 1916 upright that I just restrung and replaced the hammers. But now I have to regulate the rest of the piano and getting the balance rail and the front rail "just SO" is very important for key dip. This seems a very long and complicated process involving a great deal of measuring in thousands of an inch across the complete key bed. Id love to see how its done.
