I have a lovely Chapell baby grand needs a little tlc, one sticky key & ones a tone out, sounds very similar to this one when tuned up, I've had to replace some key surfaces & the casing has needed some help due to drying & scratches, going to give her to my Grandaughter to learn on.

Can a restrung piano have the same warm sound or should I look for original strings in a used piano? 73

Hey Ron, great question. I would try to keep the original strings if I could but only if they were in good condition. If the piano strings are rusty, majority of the bass strings sound tubby, buzzing etc then changing all the strings might be the only option. Another indication that the strings have had their day is that a number of them have already been replaced. Replacing all the strings takes away the seasoned sound and gives you the opportunity to recondition the sound board but it is costly and multiple tunings are required when restringing a piano. It would be common sense to change the tuning pins and the hitch felts etc whilst your changing the strings.
