i never buy toys from resellers as i always prefer to contact the makers of the toys. i recently just purchased the muuktoy biscuit boy square and circle directly from the maker and contacted him via instagram. i knew about his toys a few years ago but i couldnt find any stores online that sells them and when i found them on sites like eBay and japanese auction sites i wasn't prepared to pay 2-3 times the price so i stopped searching until i found the seller on instagram and asked him if he's selling and if so would it be possible to directly buy the toys from him and post it to the UK from japan. he was really nice and helpful as i like most of his cute collections that i even bought the muuktoy juice box boy in pink

Great introductory video! I remember my first experiences learning about sofubi years ago and would've loved to have found a video like this back then, it would've been very helpful! Sofubi is honestly such an interesting genre of toys and art: I'm an action figure enthusiast, and although it's not in my usual wheelhouse I have nothing but love and appreciation for this genre of toy. There's something so awesome about seeing artist's designs move from concept to sculpt to production through this lens, and the unique production methods and materials for the toys themselves result in some of the wildest things you'll ever see cast in plastic. There are figures made of sofubi that you would never see ever attempted/wouldn't be able to be made in plastics usually used for action figures and the like, and I always enjoy seeing what creators make from afar and getting ahold of what I can when I can. Good stuff.

aaw thanks so much for watching! ^0^ I really appreciate it! and same! I think that's what really attracts me to sofubi is that it's just your every-day artist that creates these toys from start to end and they're all so different and unique ^_~ so much fun! <3

6:24, how would you suggest overseas buyers to actually do? resellers will send them, but original artists mostly don't, even ones that aren't tied to copyright rules I had to relay the knowledge on how a Japanese could send their doujinshi product overseas through years of connection through their local friends of friends, and meet in person, until they are certain to send me one directly, though, I'm pretty sure its not really that most Japanese who are 'afraid' to act, as I've sold and sent my fanmade figurines to them. gotta be sneaky and try to be all local methods until its too late, they have to finish what they started(asking recipient in alphabet because certainly my local post office don't read kanjis)😂

Now more than ever it's become increasingly easier for buyers/collectors outside of Japan to get sofubi from Japan. But you're right, not every artist does international shipping but majority of them (especially the popular ones) make a lot of effort to get their toys to everyone (especially to not lose out to re-sellers). If you follow your favorite creator on Twitter/Instagram they occasionally might announce (in English) that they're doing international shipping. But I also highly suggest following stores like "TBase", "OneUp", "MyPlasticHeart", etc because they usually offer international shipping and are partnering up with more and more sofubi artists all the time. In fact, those type of shops will usually have exclusive special color-ways only available through them which makes it even more special. ;) twitter.com/TBASE_English <- example Doujinshi are a bit more difficult since they involve copywrited material but I totally get what you mean with the difficulty international shipping and such in that sense too lol

@@charliemakintoys oh cool! glad to hear that at least the sofubi niche has some cover. I can use them as reference I'm on the garage kit side of the drama and its non cooperative and both sides strange stereotypical blaming isn't helping.. as a 3rdworlder I can't even afford pirated garage kit so I just make what I wanted myself instead, turns out that old blog pictures and me trying to piece things out with learning from scratch without Japanese(now passed N3 while learning it), is more than enough, what did anyone know, mine's good enough for Japanese small doujin-fandom, lots of unique character designs to make too and asked permission I did😂

oh awesome! depending on when you come out here, there's SO many different events and conventions going on all year round. should be fun ;) and while I've never personally had anything autographed, I have seen others get their goods signed so it should be fine. and possibly for a fee (depending on the artist) they sometimes do those mini 'shikishi' autograph art boards too sometimes. TBase, One Up and Mandarake will be your best bet for new and old sofubi for sure ;) have fun! ^0^ and thanks for watching!

looking for some shopping advice for a Pokemon Fan. You see, There was this dilemma I had when I shopped at The Tokyo Branch of The Pokemon Center. Not every generation of Pokemon plagues are available. It is often just the first 2-3 generations. Then only the starter and Box legendary Pokemon plushies. So, if I shop at Den Den Town, are the chances of finding my favorite mythical Pokemon? Also, how hard or easy is it to buy a Life size Pokemon at Den Den town as a tourist?
@charliemakintoys
@charliemakintoys Жыл бұрын
I would say it would be easier to check the online Pokemon Center shop for specific plushies. Because space is limited, they don't usually have all the generations on display at once and they constantly switch out varieties of the more popular ones. As for life sized.. I would say I have never come across that in person in any of the shops in Den Den Town (or even the Osaka Pokemon Center). I know I've seen online in the past the giant Lapras, Snorlax and Lucario type of big life sized ones but dunno how limited those were. www.pokemoncenter-online.com/?main_page=product_list&keyword=%E3%81%AC%E3%81%84%E3%81%90%E3%82%8B%E3%81%BF This is a link to the Japanese online store searched for plushies if that helps. "ぬいぐるみ" "nuigurumi" is plushie in Japanese if that helps future searches too. Good Luck! ^0^

Nicely informative on a subject I'm only vaguely familiar with! I do have one example, a 'King Walder' I got to compliment my Henshin Cyborg, unfortunately it turned out to be about a head shorter than the Cyborg, so displayed next to him, he looks like a dwarf! No matter, he's a nice piece of work, slightly more complex in design and articulation than Sofubi usually are, and even the box is artfully displayable! Again, thanks for the info!👍👍👍
