What did you do to the honey to make it look white? Is it whipped? 🤔 What type of nectar is it? It looks delicious!

If this is the case why don't you see duck eggs in the grocery store instead of chicken eggs, I've heard the exact opposite chickens lay more eggs

Tip: don't use pine shavings, as the resin is aromatic and very difficult on their respiratory systems. Kiln-dried pine can be used in a pinch but drying/heating doesn't remove the irritating resins. Over time, this can cause respiratory distress and make them more prone to infection. Also, the best foods that I've found are Kalmbach natural duck food (with yeast) for little babies and Mazuri waterfowl maintenence for older ones.

Just wondering if this worked for you? We tried this for three days and then once we put them back together within a couple of hours they were at it again. Does this ever just end on its own?
@saguaro_farm
@saguaro_farm 2 ай бұрын
@@KnoxCompound yes it did! This plucking seems to be a phase associated with a certain time in adolescence. It’s mainly driven through curiosity. The blood is apparently very stimulating to this age of duck, and what worked for us was keep them apart for long enough to heal from their wounds and allow some feather stubs to grow back in. Then by the time we reconnected the raft together, they forgot about the bleeding aspect. They were still a little peckish with each other but their curiosity faded before they drew blood again.

I believe I have that exact incubator. It looks exactly the same. In the video I see you turn the eggs manually. But this specific incubator comes with an automatic turner. Have you had a better experience turning by hand? Or were the eggs too big for the automatic turner to be in there or please advise. I will be getting duck eggs this Friday and would like to know how to have more success. I don’t know if the automatic turner turns them too much. Also when spraying the eggs with warm water. About what temperature do u want the warm water and also how long is it okay for the humidity to spike. If it spikes too long do I want to take some water out of reservoir to bring humidity back down?
@saguaro_farm
@saguaro_farm 2 ай бұрын
Hi Tabitha! Alyssa here, I have had a better experience turning by hand because our duck eggs were too large to be turned with the turner. They weren't turning unfortunately. You want the water to be about the same temperature as the temperature in the incubator. If you spray your eggs and the humidity is very high that is normal, so I wouldn't be alarmed. You could open the air vent the whole way after instead of halfway to help the humidity not stay around TOO long. Let me know if you have any more questions! What kind of ducks are you going to be hatching? Such an exciting experience!!

Don't be fooled people this lady is not an expert anyone that knows about hatching duck eggs with no never to wash them she's telling you to clean the eggs to wipe the poop off when the ducks lay their eggs they are sealed with an invisible fluid from their mother so if you are wiping the egg off in any way you're taking that off and that fluid that seals the egg keeps it from getting any bacteria inside the egg so that's the worst thing you can do is wash a duck egg that you're going to hatch... now if you're getting ready to cook to eat the egg then yes you want to wash it before you crack it open also unwashed duck eggs can be stored for Once Upon months in the fridge the last way longer than washed eggs we do not wash our eggs until right before we eat but yeah if you're hatching eggs never wash/wipe them... and nobody can guarantee you 100% hatch rate sometimes the eggs just aren't fertile and sometimes eggs can start to develop and then quit they're called quitters and like I said washing the eggs will give you a lower percentage hatch rate

The knives in this video are terrible. You can barely cut the meat. Watch the New Zealandi guy's video, how he skins the goat and cuts the meat in minutes. The way holding the knife shows how professional he is, I didn't see it in this video at all.

“The correct way” is a pretty arrogant statement. You didn’t scald, pluck, or wax. I understand the two different methods and each has its advantages but “correct?” You are doing it A way not THE way.

Do I have to spray them if the incubator makes it’s own humidity?
@saguaro_farm
@saguaro_farm 4 ай бұрын
We've never experienced and incubator that does that, but I'd imagine so. Typically incubators are designed for chicken eggs, so the spray of mist simulates a mother duckling's daily pond swim, which most chicken incubators do not have a need to simulate.

My trailer doesn't have the channel at the front, just the back. But I was wondering if doubling the cross members at about the 10 ft location from the front and another doubling at about the 6 ft from the front. Then installing staggered shorter boards much like wood flooring is installed in homes. The board ends near ther middle of the trailer would be staggered 4 ft. Each end of the boards would be on a cross member. It would at least eliminate the need for a jack. Or do you think a structural problem might arise?

Purina Start & Grow Medicated is what I'm using for my ducklings. Purina S&G Medicated does not have an antibiotics, it contains amprolium which has been tested on ducklings and proven safe. I'd prefer another brand, but i saught this out for the coccidiostats. So let's not go assuming every Medicated feed could kill your ducklings.

Good to know. Im forwarding on the advice of best practices that I learned as far as whether or not to feed medicated formula to ducks. Even if possibly it would work I never wanted my ducks to be the guinea pigs for whether it works or not, so thank you for showing your experience with it. Another insight here.
