Great Job! A guide how you set all of this up would be nice. How did you align all the dolphin instances so nicely? Aren’t that all separate windows?
@MarioManTV13 күн бұрын
I’ve been working on and off on a guide in my free time. To answer your question, they are indeed separate windows. I wrote a Windows program that removes the window “decorations” (title bar, drop shadows, etc.) and auto-arranges the windows for me. github.com/SMarioMan/ArrangeInstances

damn, i've been trying to do the same for quite some time now. Been looking into the different WFC / DWC Server emulators, including CoWFC and got some things to work via LAN. I experimented with Ubuntu VMs and even Docker and LXC Containers (sometimes stuff worked, sometimes it didn't) - but I'm not satisfied yet, because my setup is kinda unstable. I know there's a LAN mod, but i only got it to work on a real wii - emulated consoles didn't work with the mod unfortunately. How'd you do it? Did you use one of the servers and spoofed DNS or anything else? I'm really happy for you, that you got it to work Also: how's performance? Did you slow down the emulation speed?
@MarioManTV2 ай бұрын
This video uses DWC server emulator in an Ubuntu VM running on VMWare. You can use a copy of my working server image here: github.com/SMarioMan/wii-online-server The LAN mod should now work on emulator if you use a recent enough version of Dolphin, but you cannot use multiple emulator instances on one machine in this case, because they all try to use the same port to communicate. There is some DNS configuration needed to make this work. I cover how to do this in Windows in the VM repo’s README. Performance is virtually flawless if you have good enough hardware. When I used an Intel Core i7-6700K, there was a lot of slowdown with 12 players. With my current AMD Ryzen 5900X, there’s barely a hitch even with 12 players. Best of luck with your efforts to make this more stable for your own setup!

Amazing Is it possible to completely sperate one instance by running that version of dolphin on a new desktop connected to another monitor?
@MarioManTV4 ай бұрын
You can lay them out however you please. If you have multiple monitors, there’s nothing stopping you from splitting them up that way too. Each instance gets its own window, ultimately. Since I’m using my own personal online server, even LAN across multiple machines is possible.

@@MarioManTV ah, gotcha. That said I presume virtual LAN linking is a no go then? How much does it cost to run your own server?
@MarioManTV4 ай бұрын
@@Mugen_YG So I’m using a fan-made recreation of Nintendo’s official online servers to do this. I run it in a VM on the same machine as the rest of these copies of the game, but you could technically run it wherever you want. LAN tunneling would work, as would port forwarding it onto the public Internet. Since it’s all on one machine though, I’ve never needed it to go further than my own LAN. If you want to try it yourself, I supply a prebuilt VM for download here: github.com/SMarioMan/wii-online-server

New version sounds more like her Bobby Hill voice. Same actress. Call me crazy but I think the low quality is part of the voice. Duke Nukem (Jon St. Jon) suffers from a similar problem if you compare the 1997 release to later Gearbox releases with re-recorded lines. The lossy compression gave him more of an edge.
@MarioManTV4 ай бұрын
I agree with you. The heavy compression is functionally a low pass filter, cutting off the higher frequencies and giving the voice a more boyish tone. For me, this was just a quick experiment to see what voice clones could offer for dialog restorations and enhancements, and I think this technique is quite promising. I wonder if there are other games in this situation, where we have lots of uncompressed audio to train a voice clone, but also lots of older, highly compressed dialog to enhance. I haven’t turned up much.

does all players connect to the same wifi? or different wifi on same melon ds emualtor?, cuz i tried to play local mario party ds on the emulator the audio lags a little bit,and gameplay slowed a little,
@MarioManTV4 ай бұрын
MelonDS multiplayer can still be a bit hit and miss between games. I’ve found that fiddling with the data reception timeout can help at times. All of this was done via the local Wi-Fi feature added in MelonDS 0.9.5. It’s also possible your PC isn’t strong enough for it. My setup here uses a Ryzen 9 5900X and an RTX 3070 Ti. This is overkill, but a highly multithreaded CPU definitely helps out here.
@Snow-zv9ps4 ай бұрын
@@MarioManTV my pc should be overkill , my cpu is same as yours and gpu 4070 ti , but i think the wifi will play the main role for its to be less lagging in the audio and gameplay,maybe future update of the emulator will help as well.

CTGP-R got support after Dolphin added accurate cache write-back emulation. There’s a guide to set things up on the Dolphin blog: dolphin-emu.org/blog/2023/02/12/dolphin-progress-report-december-2022-january-2023/ There’s a LAN mod that works on real hardware (and USB Loader) as well as emulator: wiki.tockdom.com/wiki/LAN_Multiplayer For all of my multiplayer videos, I actually don’t use the LAN mod, as it only started working on emulator last year when I identified and fixed an inconsistency in Dolphin’s HLE networking. Instead, I use a custom server VM I put together: github.com/SMarioMan/wii-online-server/releases/latest/ There is no way I am aware of to bypass disc authentication for CTGP-R on a real console.

Online races have a 30 second timeout after the winner crosses the finish line to prevent stallers from ruining the game. This may have looked weird because of the timer desyncs.

What software did you use to distribuite the screens and make them borderless?
@MarioManTV8 ай бұрын
In this video, I created an OBS layout and used the full screen projector to display it all to players. This adds too much latency for my taste, so these days I use a piece of software I wrote myself that uses the Windows API to remove window decorations, resize, and reposition each instance automatically, in tandem with Buttery Taskbar 2 to hide the Windows taskbar completely. This solution is also way more flexible, supporting lots of games and making it easy to optimize the layout for an arbitrary number of windows. OBS requires setting up each arrangement by hand. For 12 player, this is fairly straightforward. Install Dolphin on each Steam Deck, set up and run a matchmaking server VM on another local machine (github.com/SMarioMan/wii-online-server/releases ), find and enable the No-SSL cheat for the game to connect to your server, override the DNS settings of each Steam Deck to go to your custom server, and they should all connect online.
