Hi thank you for this video. I want to know how many millimeters is an 8 'ott' ? Bead? Or an 11 'ott' bead?I'm just beginning and I've never heard that term. Thank you

8 aught is how 8/0 is pronounced. Seed beads are sold in sizes like 11/0, 8/0 etc. there’s a chart that can help with sizes here: rockinbeads.com/pages/learning-center/seed-bead-sizes-chart-in-inch-millimeters.html

OMG what a wonderful tutorial. I had nearly given up being successful at macrame but have a renewed enthusiasm after watching this video. I love that you explain every step so clearly and the actions are clearly visible, no obstructions in front of the camera (i.e. head/hair/fingers). Thank you you have renewed my faith in myself that I CAN DO THIS!!

I have to add to everybody else's comments... This was a great video and a great small project to try. I finally have my cord behaving as it should more or less. I still have trouble getting a nice straight even line of DHH knots but I'm sure that's just practice. I watch you doing this and I'm amazed how clean looking everything comes out. I can't even describe it properly, but you have a talent there. I'm not sure if it's your tension on the cords, the direction you pulled the cords in, or something else that gives you a nice row of double half hitch knots. Anyway I had so much cord left over that I just kept on going. Starting from the beginning with the bundle of cords and just making row after row of diagonal lines. I need the practice. Thank you again!

One of the best videos on double half hitch knots (DHHK)! This was exactly what I was searching for the other day but couldn't find, then a different video of yours popped up and I checked out your other videos. They have been so helpful. I have been having problems with the S-lon and C-lon cords - specifically that they just won't hold knots and come undone while working. Especially the DHHK. I've ironed the cords - that will help with the curl. I'm hoping that the cord properties improved in general with the heat. I haven't tried the DHHK with this cord again since my last attempt but seeing them work for you has given me hope! Thank you.

I’m so glad it’s been helpful!! Are you using a hair straightener or curling iron to smooth the cord? I don’t know that it helps the knots hold, but it makes it easier to work with.
@roseinthepines
@roseinthepines Жыл бұрын
@@SherriStokey I used a regular iron on very low as I was afraid to melt the cord. Finally after hours struggling with this knot I got some rows done that look half decent using 1mm S-lon (ironed). This cord is tricky. Sometimes it doesn't want to hold a knot and other times it holds it so tight that the knot won't slide on the holding cord. I'm looking for some friendlier cord for more practice and more tutorials that don't confuse the heck out of me. Yours were great and I wish there were more. I had luck with this knot using paracord as a test of my abilities lol. That's how I know I had the mechanics down right, I did several rows and it came out beautifully uniform. I'm renewing an old hobby for me here, it's like learning something new again when I work with finicky cords!

No magic formula, sorry. It depends on how dense the knotting part of your pattern is, how many beads you include and the patterns itself. I usually guess WAY longer than I think I need the first time I try something, then scale back on subsequent attempts.

To better hide the ends at the end of a piece, when you do the second part of the knot, direct the cord end to the back of the work.

If I use standard .5 c-lon and 8/0 seed beads, it will just end up smaller, right? Is there a way to make the bail out of macrame as well, or do I just need to find a metal bail to use it as a pendant? I'm gonna try it! This is a really great tutorial. I also hope you make a small earring tutorial sometime.
@SherriStokey
@SherriStokey 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, if you use smaller cord and beads the resulting piece will be smaller. This post might give you an idea of the difference cord size makes: www.knotjustmacrame.com/2015/03/nylon-cord-size-comparison.html As far as a bail, I just run my cord or chain through the loop at the top of this piece.
