Facts. What are your favorite songs from it?
@BlackBransonКүн бұрын
Really good breakdown and detailed analysis. All points well condidered and difficult to really disagree. For me personally, I have always gone back to Common Sense and Big Conspiracy as the standout J Hus projects. I definitely was underwhelmed initially by BABY despite multiple listens. I'll revisist and see if time puts it in a more favourable light. In any case it looks like I'll be having a J Hus Day which is no bad thing
@KRXOVRmediaКүн бұрын
Thank you! I think part of the underwhelmingness of BABY comes from it not FULLY leaning into its concept. It's there, but it could have used some more ironing out. To me, the album feels way better to listen to when it's reordered. Try playing it in this order and lmk what you think open.spotify.com/playlist/70LUCAW8CnZ4A1TaJF15XL?si=qy-UoTqJTgir-9QmAm8eyQ&pi=hvHYwbA3TAKj2

I agree. It's a bit all over the place. Not a bad thing, but definitely a thing. When did you start listening to Hus?
@smelly1060Күн бұрын
@@KRXOVRmedia I moved to east Ldn in 2016 when I turned 14 when he started poppin. Niggas was listening to drill and shit but I've always just hated the sound, most of my playist was old skl like Nas 50 MF doom and Wu -Tang, I'd heard Dem Boy Paigon before tho but never gave it much thought. The school I went to for some reason had a whole heap of man that uses to live in Custom House so they fucked with Kojo, and being from an west African background but not being around too many of them before this I was gobsmacked at the sound of afro swing because I grew listening to highlife in the household and afro swing felt to highlife like what r&b was to soul if that makes sense, like a modernised version. So that led me to Hus, and that also got me to listening to his freestyles and 15th day which impressed me even more because he had so much range in tone, I've always called him the UK 50 cent because of that. I also love that this nigga will say the stupidest outlandish nonsense definitely appeals to my old school sensibilities. Like all that juju shit, even the people that fucked with him around weren't feeling that too tough but that right up my ally, one because I fuck with traditional African spirituality and two it's just comedy gold, bro calls himself Juju J for fuck sakes to his audience of primarily black people no less(and we know how our people feel about juju/voodoo/obeah) Anyways I know this is a long as response to your question but Jhus for me is genuinely one of the greatest artists of all time especially out the UK, and hope he gets even more experimental and crazier with it.

I appreciate you taking the time to share all of this because you could have just said "2016" and called it day. This is why I love the music so much because there's always so many interesting stories and memories attached to it for people.

"The British insult" - the ones with 2 or 3 levels to them, the first level we get there and then, but it's easy enough to let it slide because it ain't that rude and it's said without venom - the next level we get the days after because for some reason we're still thinking about it and the final stage comes like a week or month later when some other line in some other song, or just something some random bird or fella says makes us realise what was implied.. You kinda can't help but be impressed. I swear it's the historical origin of the 'I can't even be mad, I'm kinda impressed'.
