The cracked screen is very common with this and the C3-10 Javelin cars. It is caused by the heat from the motor, most of the time the screens 'melt' first then later crack.

You’ve just earned a subscriber. Really good video, currently rebuilding a C82 lotus formula junior car, with its motor in several pieces. Finally, I can put it back together without looking in the depths of the web for a replacement motor. (I haven’t found a single replacement formula junior motor on eBay)

Hi usually the guid is held in by friction but this can become brittle and worn and unfortunately you may need to use a bit of super glue but before you do let me experiment on another car to see if there is a more reversible way of fixing the guide.

Great video ,I to have cars with this problem my cars are stored in a climate controled basement, but I believe it is the darkness and some humidity contribute to this . These two cars seem to be quite unique or they are a combination of two years. The G2 guide type should only come with the Big Head upper body from what I know but being Sixty years old it's kind of hard to say for certain whether your cars are totally original or not. In the second edition catalogue it shows the cars with a Big Head. It's hard to know with these old cars because anything could have happened to them over the years. It's like the wheels, my understanding is that these MMC/58 Cooper cars should have Black wheels and the C88 Cooper has Chrome wheels.

Looks like I'm wrong about how long the G2 guide type was used. I was always led to believe it was just 1960 but it appears that it was '60 and '61. Well you learn something every day

Actually both cars are MMC/56's. The Yellow car has a G2 guide type (or commonly called Loop Braid/ Big Head) that was only made in 1960. The Blue car has the G3 guide type (or commonly called Medium Head) that was actually introduced in 1961 with the change in the driver as you correctly pointed out. The Blue car is an MMC/56 E1 which you correctly stated that it means it has lights. I believe it is possible to get MMC/56 E1 G2 cars which you stated you have seen but I never have. The globes are almost impossible to source nowadays, which is unfortunate because I have an MMC/56 E1 G3 car that needs a pair of globes and one of the front rubber globe holders which I'll probably never find. I was fortunate enough to purchase a bag of NOS rear rubber globe holders with globes many years ago to repair a different MMC/56 E1 G3 car many years ago now for French cars but thankfully they're exactly the same as English ones.

@@topvolts81 well you know a fair bit yourself. I was wrong about the G2 guide type because you correctly stated that that was still used in 1961. I don't know the 1961 cars because I sold everything but the Australian MMC/54 cars for many years and only knew about them. Lately (well nearly five years now) I've been restoring the Made in England cars that I've been winning on eBay. I'm really into these early cars. I'm hoping to get a Competition set box one day, I only have G.P. set boxes. I have a nice pair of G3 guide type MMC/56 E1 Lister Jaguar cars but I've yet to get a good pair of the MMC/57 E2 Aston Martin cars

Hi Trevor Without seeing the car it’s difficult to say, but I would check the soldered joints to the motor or the connector to the brushes in the guide, when pressing down the body shell this would move the wires around and could possibly be causing the motor or guide to loose contact. Good luck and I hope this advice helps.

Hi, I will experiment with a few ideas I’ll let you know if any of them work as I have a few cars with the same problem, the main Cause of this is direct sunlight causes the white cars to yellow but using common bleach submerged 48 to 72hrs and then washed with warm soapy water can sometimes solve this but I will test it out one of my cars and record it and I’ll post results on KZbin.

@@topvolts81 it will be interesting how that works. The car has martini tampo so I have been scared to mess that up though I sourced some repro decals. I painted a rothmans 962 which had turned beige, was a fun project. Yes sunlight is the issue, nature hates shelf queens maybe??
