Ive been dealing with back pain for 4 months. Went to drs. Mri just says narrowing of l5s1 disc.They dont have any idea. Most muscle spasms went away but the lower back left hurts when sitting and when bending forward n backwards left side. Will this stuff work?
@UpperExtremityEngineers4 сағат бұрын
Thanks for watching. Thats frustrating. One thing I will say is don't base your entire life on one little image. The MRI is a static image. It is not moving. It doesn't tell the whole story. It sounds like you are pretty sensitized to pain at the moment and that most movement hurts. That means you will likely have the most success with the isometric exercises starting out. Going for walks will likely be quite helpful too. Gradually build up your ability to flex/extend/lateral movement. The exercises should not hurt. If they do, you are trying to make your body do something it is not ready for yet. Hope that helps.

Multiple injuries from head to toe from years of hard labor and lifting heavy equipment. I was barely walking and spasms were intense. Exercise I started in March helped my back and legs a lot. I will say I started touching my toes daily. Last week I was touching my toes and I felt a decent pull in my lower back. I was scared. It’s still a little sore. Hopefully, I’ll be ok. I haven’t tried to touch my toes in a week. I’m going to try again on Tuesday.

I feel your pain. Hang in there. Go slow, stretching can actually do a lot of harm to your back if you are not careful. I would recommend watching my other back pain video too. However, take my information with a grain of salt. I dont know your situation. Just take my information and apply the parts of it to your life that seem most relevant. Keep trying!

Thanks for the great explanation! I've been working in construction for thirteen years and my back is getting sore like you show here but I can't get rid of the pain. It hurts when I bend back, and it hurts mostly in the mornings and even more when I don't exert much. In the background I have celiac disease which I discovered only three years ago and it is possible that I developed a hardening of the lower vertebrae in the spine due to the high inflammation over the years. What do you think, will practicing alone solve it?
@UpperExtremityEngineers11 сағат бұрын
Thanks for watching! My first piece of advice is going for a nice little walk in the mornings to prepare you for your day. Have some easy to slide on shoes by the door so you can just get out of bed and start walking. (if you live somewhere where that is possible). Keep your walking short if you have to. The goal is to desensitize your back to pain. Walking is typically a good way to get a little movement in your body without making your pain worse. I doubt practicing bending your back alone will fix you. Although, if done properly it will help. Check out my other back pain video for my advice. Keep doing research and good luck. There is hope for you.

Thanks for the video. I have a question, I have heard that many times. “The spine is not ment to bed forward” Where in the literature does it say that? Was never able to find anything ? Thanks !
@UpperExtremityEngineersКүн бұрын
Yea, i read stuart mcgills book and he talks about the concept of energy leaks. Meaning the spine repetitively bending over and over between the individual vertabrae is bad. It is better to hinge at the hips when lifting something heavy thus keeping the spine neutral. I agree with this. However, trust me. If you dont use your back, you lose it. In order to truly have a resiliant spine, you have to take your spine through its normal/natural range of motion rather than keeping it locked in place 24 hours a day out of fear. This is a complicated topic. Ill make videos in the future in more detail. thanks for watching.

THank you Dr. it was a very helpful, action-oriented video! Quick question, did you have to do any surgery? I think a lot of people have some types of disc degeneration or similiar symptoms and want to know if needing surgery is an inevitable can to kick down the road...
@UpperExtremityEngineers4 күн бұрын
Glad you liked the video, thank goodness I never had a surgery. I considered it many times. degenerative disc disease sounds scarier than it really is. I would say that for the majority of people, exhausting all your resources prior to surgery is a good method. Surgery should be a worst case scenario type situation and it should not be taken lightly. Surgery for back pain is often just a bandaid. It often doesnt address why the problems where developed in the first place. Dont get me wrong, there are a lot of surgeons who help a lot of people. However, it is not uncommon for people to wind up worse than they were prior to the surgery.

Apparently, there's no way out for me because every time I lie down for any period of time, achiness will ensue. The same can be said when I'm lying on my sides, even using a body pillow between the legs. The only thing that helps is sleep, which is difficult to attain since my whole lower back is aching as I lie in place.
@vinnie979 күн бұрын
Which is a shame because I can do jogging (well, until I suffered patellofemoral syndrome a month ago) fairly well without generating much in the way of pain in the same lumbar region.
@UpperExtremityEngineers9 күн бұрын
There is hope for you. The hard truth is that it is extremely unlikely any single person is going to fix your back for you. That is the wrong way of looking at this problem. You need to become your own therapist/doctor. You need to become your own expert. Only you know what you are feeling. Only you know what your past history has involved. And at the end of the day, only you really care about the health of your back. No one else really has the time and energy to think as much about your back as you do. Now pick yourself up by your bootstraps and get to work. Have a nice day.

@@UpperExtremityEngineers I'm just not convinced you can exercise/strengthen pain-free (much less coexist) with this kind of chronic injury. If every time you feel irritation you're setting yourself back, this would mean nothing but an endless cycle (which may explain why some people suffer from this for decades; still, experiencing pain at 5 or less/10 is sometimes the best you can do without becoming a total lump).

In my experience, the tight hamstrings are the body trying to 'level' the pelvis. Stretching them is like peeing ones pants to stay warm... It feels good. But only for a short while 😅 Advice in this video is gold, strengthen don't stretch! Tennis balls are great to squash the muscle knotts that form during the strengthening process. But don't worry as the muscles slowly get stronger the knotts dissappear.

I was fine until I had a knee surgery and then my back suffered because I don’t haven’t been able to do a squat ( lack of range of motion on my knee). When I have to lift something. It’s miserable
@UpperExtremityEngineers10 күн бұрын
That makes sense. Obviously, you need to address your knee. You don't wanna go through life without the ability to squat. But will ignore that for a minute. You should try to master the hip hinge. Hinge at the hips to pick things up. You could also master the golfers lift. Additionally, Working on controlled spinal flexion could really benefit you too if done carefully and correctly. I know nothing about your history or body type, age, comorbidities, etc. So I cant give you specific advice over the comment section. Keep trying to find the solutions to your unique set of problems.

Thanks for the video. I have recently bought heavy strength loop resistance bands and i am doing goodmornings with them. Any discomfort i have vanishes after 25 controlled reps. I was suprised myself. It is the home gym equivalent to back extensions. The one i bought cost me around 40-50 euros/us dollars but it is worth it. i do 1 set almost every day. And that is it. Not trying to sell resistance bands because i work with dumbbells and even barbells for deadlifts at home but for this specific exercise i have found it to be gold.

I think your doing the back extention exercise wrong, your not supposed to move that much. Because the lower back must be locked and not bending, so most people wont have that much movement and you will hurt your back instead.
@kjones200815 күн бұрын
You can change which muscles groups are firing by changing your back and/or feet positioning. Everyone should build up to (or maintain) as much range of motion as their body can tolerate. Every body has unique proportions, unique ranges of motion, and unique compensations. Never hold yourself to the movement patterns of someone else. It’s right for that person, find what is right for you.

@@marshallw4492 on this machine you can do two workouts, the lower back and glutes. But doing the glute exercise you need a strong back.
