I have a 102 I am showing some love and would like to take the tower console off but not the steering shaft cause there are no wheels on the rear since it is stripped down. It will not come off do not see anymore bolts holding it on, I noticed in the video you still had the steering column in so it must be possible. Is there something I am missing like a mystery set of bolts somewhere underneath?

Run 400 ABC since the early 80s never had any problem with anything just as good as a 350 far as I'm concerned and made a lot of low in torque and power with right cam and heads . Good video.

Just dealt with this yesterday. You need to use a new belt that is nice and soft. If your belt is older and hard, no matter what you do it will make all kinds of noises. It needs to be as tight as a guitar string also or the same thing will happen.

Great video man! I gotta question though. When your re-staking the release ramp how tight should it be fitting after. Im concerned it isnt seated well enough. but dont wanna continue just peening at them slots. Dont wanna get it all back together for a test out and grab the clutch and have it all come apart inside. Hit me back id appreciate it.
@1968hambone
@1968hambone Жыл бұрын
I would recommend re-staking it and add couple and you should be fine as long as it's good and snug. if it's not sloppy after staking it in you should be fine. best wishes with your project man!

Looks like you know what you are doing. If you want to torque the rear head you need to make a tool. Get a 9 inch (+/-) long 3/8" extension and a regular socket, not deep well. Put the socket on one of the two difficult head bolts and measure to the top of the rocker cover on the right side and to the bottom of the frame. Now put the socket on the extension and mark the distances you measured onto the extension. You will bend the extension 90 degrees so that it comes out the right side of the bike between the rocker box and the frame. Next you can bend the extension 90 degrees up a couple of inches from the ratchet end. You now have a special tool. As long as the extension is 90 degrees from the torque wrench the torque setting is accurate. You can also use it to tighten the bolts down and save all that wrench work. I have a 1979 Sporty.

You missed a "0". We do not want .004" -.007" (which is a clicky valve adjustment sort of clearance) but rather .0006" - .0008" which is "light finger pressure through the rod and NO perceptable rocking.
