Very nice! I know that this is an old video, but I've never seen it. I don't see many AMT cars on video, other than on my channel. I have 45 of them, Santa Fe, NYC, PRR and Southern. They are often featured in my videos The cars that you have are extruded. Jack Ferris and his chief designer, developed an inexpensive way to extrude aluminum. I believe that they stopped the sand-casting after 1948 and started with the extruded cars, in 1949. Each set has 9 cars. A baggage, RPO, combo baggage-passenger car, a coach, diner, two named sleepers, a Vista Dome and an observation. You could order the sleepers with either the railroad name or Pullman and there was a choice of 'ribbed' or smooth tops. I've run ten with my post-war F3's, but usually six. Either way, you have some nice cars.

Hi your comment is timely as I just picked up 7 of the 9 cars in the series, love the look and feel of these cars...I'm a bit of a loss on how to disassemble the cars so I could get at the light bulbs and wiring...after removing the four base screws, do you have to get the vestibules off before sliding out the base? any help would be appreciated.
@johnandrus3901
@johnandrus3901 Ай бұрын
@@ken0272 You can take the body off of the chassis without removing the vestibules. You can spread the body sides ever so slightly, if needed. You can twist the chassis a bit and slide it out that way, also. This is the only thing about AMT that I don't like. With Lionel and Marx, the light sockets clip in from the bottom and removal is easy. AMT cast the sockets into the chassis, so you have to take it out to replace the lights. You don't have to take the chassis out to fix the wiring, though. I might have to do an AMT disassembly video. Good luck!

Saludos!!!

3:07 Voltage regulator for headlamp probably can not handle power of smoke unit. No surprise on a budget friendly engine. The regulator has a good heat sink which is needed with constant draw of a headlight. I rigged a reed switch to get puffs on a MTH Protosounds GS4 which had too much smoke. It controlled smoke motor not the heating element. Sold that engine when converting to all command. You did a nice job!

The parts I ordered to rebuild an eunit specifically for the 2026 were ok except for the roller, which end pins are too large for the holes in the eunit, and comparing to the old one confirms this. The same thing happens when I buy car or tractor parts; it's a universal crap shoot when getting parts.

This brings back great memories from when I was a kid. My father bought one of these Gurney Eagles for me and we had a fantastic time running it in a parking lot. It ran and sounded just like this and all the neighborhood kids would stop to watch. Unfortunately, some lady drove through the parking lot and ran over it while it was running and destroyed it.

Thanks for showing this. I just bought one of these just like your's here. Black and no road name and three rail, the unique reversing unit and good worm gear system. However it was advertised as being made by Taylor. The center rail pick up is made by Taylor. Mine was dead when I got it, and I got some life out of it, reversing unit noise and light after cleaning the green off of the center rail pick ups. Today I got it going after taking it apart and oiled the gears and the motor shafts and adjusting the side truck plates. Had to drill out the one side some due to a wabbly axle. Runs fine now but the reversing unit needs help and the switch to turn off the reversing unit does not move. I don't have any of the post-war Lionel NW-2, only the MPC era Lionel ones and they are plastic top shell with a steel base. I did not know Lionel made theirs with a case iron shell. I thought only their base was case Iron.

Most of those machines R a 1' inch shaft size and the 301cc or is it the 313cc Predators have that one inch crank. In most cases there is ample length to the shaft as well VS other motors. That is because they are designed for go carts and Chinese cars with them CV Clutch set ups. The also work awesome on older tractors that have the horizontal motors on em. Done a few older tractors with them Predator motors. Ya really gotta monkey with the governor and the throttle set ups can end up a Rubics Cube. The more ya play with it the harder it gets. Harbor freight does make a GO CART throttle kit and carb for em and you get a little extra power too. But getting one of them assholes on the phone that know what it is is another hard thing to do...

Them gosh dang Chicom mufflers muck up just about anything U wanna fit that engine on. I did have it fit right onto an older Bolens chipper and I mean it was one from the late 70's according to is serial date. It fit right on. These later YARDMAN & MTD Machines are bad. Everything wrong but the crank size on the 301cc or is it 313cc motors I work with that is about what it comes down to on any of the later machines they all had them Tecumseh motors... The predator is a bad fit for any of the chippers. I don't know about snow blowers I have not tried that yet but as newer machines become unaffordable well folks will be stopping by asking questions...

Hi, i know this is an ancient video, but was wondering how you honed this? In the Bridgeport manually throwing the quill lever for cross hatch? Or just a hand drill. Or maybe you have a honing machine. Enjoyed the video. I bored out a 50cc kart motor once, but had a lot of chatter. After watching your video, im guessing i was turning it too fast. You were probably turning less than 200 rpm. I think i was going 500 or more.. thanks again

I’d love to know more about these and see more people talking about them. I have this same set with the original cars that was given to me by a friend that found it at a yard sale. Well, it was already in pretty bad condition and missing the cylindrical pieces that go between the cars. I had never heard of this brand and just thought it was worthless junk, so it sat outside in a bucket and was pretty much forgotten about until I remembered it, looked into it and realized how rare these are. Now I’m attempting to restore it to the best of my ability.

I live about 30 miles east of where Ives trains were made. Does anyone know if their factory is still standing, or where in Bridgeport it was?
@tmackinator
@tmackinator Жыл бұрын
The ives factory is long gone. no trace exists . I worked a block away from where it was on 194 Holland ave Bridgeport ct. I worked on state street a few blocks away. Lots of trains came out of Connecticut factories from all different manufacturers. I knew a gentleman who worked for my company who talked about going there as a kid to get his train repaired. Often they would completely refurbish them or swap for a brand new train. This was at no cost due to pride of workmanship.
@ronalddevine9587
@ronalddevine9587 Жыл бұрын
@@tmackinator Thanks for your answer. I've read many articles about their generous repair policy. Most people don't realize that not only Ives was Made in Connecticut, as well as A.C.Gilbert American Flyer, but Lionel was also Made in Connecticut for about two years around 1917 or so. I believe that their factory was in New Haven. The Gilbert factory still stands on Peck Street, formerly Erector Square.
