Even the remakes are getting hard to come by nowadays. There was supposed to be a boy's set as a companion piece, with a blue locomotive and tender and matching crayon-box colors for the cars, but it never got beyond the prototype stage as the girl's set crashed and burned in sales. Lionel did make a repro of the boy's set, but like the girl's set, it's a hard to find item, at least in my experience. Me, if I was going to go off-prototype for paint, I'd like an engine in glossy Persian Orange with cream drivers and blue lettering/trim.

I think it would help the engine's looks to paint the cab roof tuscan, the smokebox silver, and the drivers and cowcatcher red. You know, make it a fully-fledged colored livery instead of just palette-swapping the standard all-over black.

Well, reality might be stranger as you think. The Swiss railways painted a few gondolas in the eighties pink to promote freight traffic (Google on SBB Eaos pink). That was also a failure.... And also here the H0 and N models from Märklin and Minitrix are very collectable ;-)

I never got one and did want it but made up for not getting it with a basement full of 027 and outside with g gauge know.
