Hi great review !! I will use them in my next clip. Do you use filter with them ?
@joebressler3 күн бұрын
sometimes! it depends on the project - the cool thing about the Leica R's is that on their own they have a pretty signature look (sharp at the focus point, with a nice semi swirly fall off to the corners). a lot of times it feels, to me, like additional filtration is unnecessary.

I was looking to buy a Jena 20mm and in doing my research KZbin suggested your page. What a fantastic discovery I’ve come across! Love your creative energy! Definitely have a new subscriber in me! Question. When you shot with the Jena 20mm, did you use the full sensor (17:9) or did you shoot in another ratio? I’m getting mine converted to EF Mount so I was wondering if there was any vignetting to be worried bout or should I just get it adapted as a PL Mount instead? Sorry for the lengthy post but it’s not everyday I run across a page like yours so if I could get your opinion that would be invaluable to me. Thank you in advance! Salute! 🫡🫡🫡🫡
@joebressler12 күн бұрын
thank you for subscribing and for the kind words! we used the full sensor and did not experience any vignetting. I would recommend PL mount as its more future proof, EF seems to be going away in favor of RF. PL is also a more secure mount, although cameras that use PL mount (and adapters) tend to be more expensive
@Oshotya12 күн бұрын
@@joebressler Thank you broski, I appreciate that! I’ll go with the PL Mount then. I was only going EF to put it on a speed booster to get the full field of view. But I see your point. Thanks again. Looking forward to learning more from you. Salute! 🫡

thanks dan! I was just the DP for this one, so can't really speak as much to the interview questions. Everything else (focal length / zoom / b roll) was organic. That's what made the shoot so fun.

Hey man, genuine question. If mobility/nimbleness was important for this shoot, why didn't you opt for a smaller camera to shoot with? Wouldn't a Komodo/FX6 been better for a shoot of this nature? Was the Alexa TRULY necessary, or could you have gotten away with a smaller system? I'd love to know if something similar could've been pulled off for less money, with less gear
@joebressler16 күн бұрын
I definitely could have shot this on an Fx6 or a Komodo, both are great cameras. If I were working with a smaller team, I probably would have chosen one of those systems, but since we had enough support I went with ARRI. By enough support, I mean a couple of AC's + adequate production support like a camera van, PA's, etc. I'm posting a video soon about shooting a doc series on the Mini LF and get into this subject a bit more in detail. Since most cameras are getting close to "good enough" these days I think it's an interesting topic! I think you should choose whatever camera you're most comfortable with in the circumstances you need to work in.
@yashwinning12 күн бұрын
@@joebressler ahh that's good to know! And I definitely agree that most cameras these days are getting good enough for everything. Heck, it's kinda insane that I can right now buy a Panasonic S5 iix for less than $2k and that thing basically has everything you'd need for a solid "cinema camera contender" I myself am a photographer who's been trying to get more into video and I'm saving up to upgrade to a Fujifilm X-H2S from my current X-T3. From everything I've seen it looks like the X-H2S is a truly capable camera, and it's great to know that that camera could technically scale up with me, instead of holding me down.

Nice, the talking head shots with you reading could use some leaning into the fact that you read, with the concise-journalistic-almost Wes Anderson language you use it lends to something more theatrical, efficient nonetheless
