I did a process similar to that decades ago but using post cards. I guess it was an early form of decoupage? But I have never seen it done on fabric and I would never have thought to do it either. Well done I love your thinking outside the box creativity. Oh ps your mannequin in the corner, is it another project of yours or did you get it like that?

Oh, I love the idea of using postcards too. I’m intrigued by all forms of simple fabric transfer. Ironically, my sister gave me a beautiful Cricut machine for that very purpose, and I have yet to use it. You have such a keen eye! That is an old dress form that I painted with a glazing technique and used decoupage to affix a magazine print to the body of the mannequin. It was one of my first big projects that was used to decorate a party at Christie’s auction house in NYC. Thanks so very much for watching. I love that we’re building a little community of fearless and scrappy DIY’ers. See you next week.

Thank you for another beautiful and creative project from you. I hope that you’re all recovered from your flu? And a great Big Thank You for getting so many shots of your beautiful bike into the video as you said you would try to do. You totally excelled and I am so very grateful!! Hi Natalie! I am fully recovered and can’t wait to share more projects with you. That bike keeps looking. No sign of fading or rust! I should give it another clear coat of some sealant before we get into our “rainy” season. The little light basket has given the patio a sense of whimsy and romance. Hi Linda!! First off, I cannot believe how long your orchids have been blooming. How beautiful. I’m excited for your first chalk paint project. Thank you, Joe. I like approaching the decorating of this rental in stages. It’s overwhelming to have to include everything for the first tenant after a huge renovation when the budget is stretched to the max. Once I place the desk into the rental cottage I’ll make sure and post an update. I think I’ll hang a mirror over the top so people can use it as a vanity as well as a desk. Have a great week. @@lindawynell thanks, Linda! Your attention to detail always amazes me. I think those large succulents are the “salad bowl” variety. They always look fresh in the garden. If I had to buy all of those large bromeliads and succulents for the planters, it would have taken me beyond my budget for this little project. The agave was overgrown in parts of the back garden so what a way to highlight them in front. Thanks for being such a dear supporter of this channel. Enjoy your day off.

Hi Tini. I used a large bag of Celluclay premixed paper mache. It costs about $23 at Michael’s. The cardboard cement form I bought from Home Depot for $13. The mailer tubes cost about $9. The most expensive part of the project is the type of rattan fabric you use which can run from $14-25/yd. I believe I used close to 2.5 yards. Hope this helps! Let me know how it works for you. Once you get used to working with paper mache, you’ll open your eyes to all of the possibilities for decor.

@@lindawynell You found time to do a DIY project. Care to share how it turned out? Let’s not bury the lead…wasps?? They do like to nest in prime real estate from my experience. I’ll talk to my orkin guy. He might have some good tips I can share. You know how you’ve been delighted by your budding orchids? I feel the same about the strawberry guava tree in particular. The larger pink guava I planted in ground lost all of its leaves during that plant shock period and then got eaten by some kind of worm. Now that it is established, I just amend the soil with worm castings, and it is thriving. So fun to share ideas with you. XOXO

@@NutshellLivingyes, if your Orkin man has ideas & tips, plz share. I stopped my riding mower over a ground wasp nest (I never knew there was such a nightmare!) They stung me multiple times before I could get away from them. I had no idea I could scream & run at the same time! I’m constantly using wasp spray on regular wasps that build their nest under deck railings, peaks of roofs…my DIY was an entertainment center I bought online at a bargain. I had another use for it in mind. I assembled it & didn’t like the gray doors & shelf. The main unit was a beautiful creamy white, which is the background color of my kitchen wallpaper that I still haven’t used in the kitchen. So I covered those gray doors with some of that wallpaper & the shelf in a solid white. Its mid-century mod meets cottage!

@@NutshellLivingI haven’t started on the DIYs. 😮 😄 I knew I wouldn’t enjoy them if I crammed them between all the things going on in my life. Instead, I’ve taken moments here & there to examine what I have & do some deliberate thinning out, creating more space. It’s amazing how quickly one can accumulate “things”! It has been therapeutic. I find I gain momentum & can more easily “let go” by frequently going through this process. I like to think I’m cleaning the canvas for the future DIYs. 😊 I try to sketch, can’t say I’m brilliant at it but it is a relaxing thing to do while listening to an audible book or message. I truly hope you can get someone reliable, compassionate & knowledgeable to help you with the care of your Mom. While we need space for our own adult lives, the moments I spent with my Mom toward the end of her life were precious & now fill me with memories to hold onto now that she isn’t with me any more. I didn’t realize how much those times would mean. I thought I’d fall apart with all the demands of work & life & the need to be there for her. I didn’t. I know now I gained strength. Isn’t that just like life? It’s in retrospect we see better. Keeping you & your Mom in thoughts & prayers.

Hi Sandra! What great questions. The guava tree is on a plant dolly with wheels and is easily movable. As long as the tree can be removed from its pot, we’ll be able to lie it on its side and pull it out. Guava limbs stay pretty pliable so that is the hope for its future. I did not think about the possible insect situation. We don’t have lots of spider problems in the garden, but if I did see a problem arising, we are on a good Orkin program at the property. I’ll have them spritz and do what they do. I live in sunny San Diego so I hope this basket will last a few months. I’ll make sure and provide an update once we get into fall. The tenants seem to really like it. I’ll update you on how well the eucalyptus hold up to our sun and weather. They weren’t pricey, and if I get a few months out of them, I’ll be happy. Thanks for watching!! XOXO. See you at the next ep.

Such a brilliant idea! I totally love it. Thank you for showing us this cute project. I am so sorry you’ve been under the weather. A summer cold seems so much worse than one in the winter, I think. My son had his follow up visit with his doctor. He is healing well but can’t return to work until the new year. The family is pulling together & God has already blessed with financial help with the $400,000 hospital bill. My orchid is pink! I have 5 open blooms right now. 🎉 I can’t thank you enough for the tip on that fertilizer.💕 Don’t over do it, give yourself time to recover from the cold/flu. 😊

@@lindawynell Hi, my friend! I got goosebumps reading how your family has been blessed with a way to lessen that daunting medical bill. A year of recovery for your son? Sounds like your family has enough love and faith to keep him healthy and hopeful during that time with enough to spare. The orchids must give you such joy. I need to replant mine. They’re magical flowers to me, delicate looking but resilient and tough. Thanks for spending your precious time watching my little videos. I smile whenever I see your name. See you next ep!
