Beautiful ascent - really great couloir there ! Some nasty ice near the crux point - nicely passed, and the exit part pretty sick.. Crossing Goethe lake also quite enjoyable when frozen :) In the summer there is some seriously annoying talus around it to deal with ..

Thanks for the compliment. Talus is one reason I'd rather travel on skis. I'll put up my descent of Thunderbolt Peak soon. That talus is horrendous dry.

Thank you. It's not always what you'd call fun, but always rewarding and fulfilling. Plus, it makes the rest of life easy. I'd rather push myself than get pushed around by life.

I've lived here for 60 years and know the surrounding area quite well. As far as the specific line, it's always different and part of the fun, just reacting to the openings that pop up. It's easy for people not familiar with the area to get lost. Sometimes tourists from the ski area get lost off the back side of the mountain and search and rescue has to retrieve them. This is in the Ansel Adams Wilderness. Just a mile or so to the south is the John Muir wilderness. Both these wilderness areas are within three miles of where I live. I spend much of my free time there.

This was so sick! This video is my first exposure to seeing someone climb up a mountain and then ski their way back down. What an insane sport! That had to be a ton of fun!!

So much fun, and very rewarding, too. This was a three day trip, so it included the whole snow camping experience.

I quot using leashes a few years back and so it's a good way to keep your hand in place wuthout a tight grip, saving energy ans strength. When it's at the bootom of the shaft, it also protects your knuckles from banging on the ice. It also just inspires confidence because my hands feel so secure. Without it, I'd be concerned about my hand slipping off the shaft.

that was awesome! looked pretty steep at portions as well. was it very technical or needing crampons?
@midi510

Technical enough to be fun without being scary, but not for too long. I would have liked a longer ice section. I used crampons for the whole face, but only really needed them in the throat.

@@midi510 awesome! How do you like the slingfin splitwing?
@midi510

@@juskojj It's great for a minimalist approach. If skiing, you have to take your poles during the day, but not big deal. I read someone writing with concern about the way the three zippers come together letting bugs in, but they seal up really well. The one thing I'd like to see is a bit of a tub lip in front as it's easy to knock dirt or snow into the tent. I don't usually use the vestibule, either. I have the Crossbow 2 winter version for a palace for one in full winter conditions. It's really good for 2 people also, and you can split the load. I want to get a Portal, so I can have exactly the tent for the job. I have nearly 20 packs.

I wasn't very strong here. Kept stopping to catch my breath. I thought I was the first in here on this day, but when I got to within about a half mile of the bottom of the chute, I saw two other people ahead of me. I tried to catch them and if I passed them, I'd get to drop in first. Got to the top just after them. Had some good convo as they were cool dudes from Tahoe, but I did slightly toast my legs on the way up.

Yeah, snow's completely gone now. Really dry summer. Did a loop from George to Crystal to TJ to George yesterday and not a drop flowing out of Crystal or TJ.

How do you self-arrest with 2 axes? I love this 2 axes style but still haven't figure out the way

There's no need to, since you always have at least one tool secure to the slope.

We descended another aspect that had earlier and more direct sun. I like going up almost as much as coming down. It was awesome spring corn. You can find my instagram post for that day if you go back to spring. @midi510.

If you watch the Right Sister Chute video, I had to wait over an hour for it to soften up as mich as it did when I skied it. The ascent was super fun, though on very hard neve.

It was. I'm pretty lucky to have this kind of terrain in my back yard. I've been skiing this area since 1971, when I was 12. Started skiing Mammoth Mountain when I was 4.

The run from the crest starts at 6:14. I was pretty cautious as there was slab activity behind Crystal Lake. I need to figure out how to get rid of the red snow and there wasn't any motion blurring before uploading. I also need to find the best rendering settings. The music was what I was listening to as I skied.
