No, I agree with you! I talked about this with a couple of my students who read the books, and we all had this image in our head of Michael being a bit more out there. With his body language for exemple! I found the tv version very stiff and idk, to me, he and Tory had this interesting "untoppable force meets immovable object" dynamic in the source material but here... they're almost too similar. And it's not a huge ick for me or anything! Their dynamic works in the show but yeah...

I think I understand why they changed Tori's storyline. Youannounce have to understand that most people who read Heartstopper also read Solitaire and mostly understand/know Tori. But most people who watch the show have not learned that about Tori so maybe that is why they decide not to drop the bomb yet and announced that she is ace because they have not showcased that side of her much. Looking forward to her story in the next season tho hopefully

OMG Finally someone articulating what I have been feeling with the ferrys wheel scene! I felt very betrayed too, because (next to the shower scene) the ferrys wheel scene is my absolute fav moment in the comics and as a fellow aroace, it is so important to mee(Like Isaacs whole story line too) !! And while the shower scene was just AMAZING in the show, the ferrys wheel was just .. it felt like a gut punch and I was very disappointed, I even had to pause and process; otherwise I wouldn't be able to enjoy the rest of S3 (and it was almost over by this point) ... But after some reflection and talking to the Heartstopper community over on Alice's discord about it, I agree that a lot happened in s3 and a lot of topics were handled and tori's story on top of that!! It would have been too much, she deserves a proper focus on her story and it not being just rushed over too. I also think the emphasis of their conversation was about Toris worry over her brother, his wellbeing was her focus this season, so thinking about her sexuality and relationship whith Michael wasn't really on her mind then (also something I can relate to as a bigger sister to someone who dealt with mental health issues - they're fine now, no worries)... and that foreshadowing look on Isaac when he watches Tori and Micheal leave ... Alice is for sure keeping it for S4, let's hope we get one!!! Also I was 28 when I realized I am ace and identify also as aro only recently soo I am still processing and dealing with what being aroace means for me, for my life, I am currently in a phase where I know I don't want romantic or sexual relationship (I am all for platonic love) but still morning that I don't want it, it is such a weird feeling and I admire Isaac for having such a straightforward journey about finding that out about himself at such a young age!!! Isaac is such a good character anyway, he is so articulate and in touch with himself!!! Uhg where was this show when I was a teen!!
@lovemyshelf
@lovemyshelf 20 күн бұрын
YES!!! I completely forgot to mention it in the video (even tho i was rambling for so long god help me 😭) but I did like the fact that this season and the ferris wheel scene were more centered on Tori and Charlie's relationship! Thank you so much for opening up a little in this comment. I hope you'll manage your journey with just as much grace and patience as Isaac. I know I also needed a "grieving period" when I first found out I was aromantic as well. It's hard to untangle your own feelings and thoughts and realize you can love LOVE and in my case, write/read romance novels and still not want that for yourself. Like coming to terms with the fact that being in a romantic relationship didn't actually make me happy was... hard. But then it quickly got easier and better and now I'm just so relieved bc there are so many society norms we don't feel obliged to follow! And so much drama we avoid! (At least as an active participant lmao) Being aroace is easily one of my favourite things about myself! Isaac's journey is incredibly impressive and I saw it happened in real life with one of my students (i'm a library assistant in a secondary school) and just... wow 🥺

@@lovemyshelf honestly this younger generation, I am just awed by them, so confidently and proudly figuring themselves out and being so in touch with themselves and their sens of identity ... and now I feel old writing this 🤣🤣 also the "grieving period" is something which Isaac talks about while coming out to his friends in the zoo, like that knowing this about himself changes everything for him, for his life and he needs time to process.. I just really loved this moment, it made me soo emotional because I am currently there in my own journey and I could sooo relate. For all the heavier emotional scenes this season, this was the one where I cried the most. I can't say it enough, Alice is such an excellent writer and the aroacerep is just chefs kiss!! and know I am rambling - this show just has that effect on me ahah

alice posted on tumblr months ago (back in may) that tori coming out in the ferris wheel scene wasn’t going to happen so they could expand on it further in season 4 if there is one it was during a q&a so most people probably missed it but the question was “when you said the ferris wheel scene was modified does that mean that the talk that tori has with charlie about her being asexual will that not be in s3?” and alice answered “yes that’s correct, i’m saving that story for s4 where i can build up to it much more effectively. you’ll see when you watch s3 that there just wasn’t the room to give that storyline the space it needs!”

This was a very interesting review for me. I don't watch the show, i stopped in season 2 (i think i watched all of it), but there was a particular event that looked wrong to me and that it's more personal too. At least without additional context from the books, which shouldn't be needed anyway in my opinion. I lost the will to continue watching, since Heartstopper is a representation of inclusivity and kindness, with a positive message at the end of the day about love and acceptance... And in my eyes it failed so completely in the latter. But it's not about a main topic, the show addresses topics that are more new and misunderstood by society today. But it may also feel wrong to prioritise some topics over others to very few people (or just me), when it wasn't why I was watching this show. I guess I was expecting to see everything being approached from the same perspective, but it wasn't, which looked to me, at the very least, immature... Anyway! This was only to give an idea that sometimes people confuse not liking something with not liking only a particular aspect that drove them away, so they generalize... and at the same time, there are no discussions about topics in general when opinions differ which is sad... but that's a much longer story. I don't watch Heartstopper now because something made me seriously question the creators of the show and their moral compass behind anything they do. I don't mean that they ever did or would do anything questionable in my eyes again, but I can't be sure either. All that said... just like a distant relative, I would like to know how the characters are doing now, which is why I appreciated this video a lot, thank you! 😊

I would love to hear that, too, to be honest. I do love Heartstopper deeply, however, there was one particular "message" in the second season that kind of "tackled" my core value of forgiveness. 43:15 I agree with this. The fact that Heartstopper is still rated as age 12+ in the UK is really good. Even though they added cursing, sex and alcohol. These are natural parts of growing up and kids aged 12+ in the UK are already in their second year of high school.
@ThatsMyUsborneBook

My only criticism of this season was the way they made Elle go from being one of the four core group of friends to just Tao's girlfriend who is a friend by extension. Isaac only has a go at Tao about being ignored but he doesn't have that conversation with Elle. We don't see either Isaac or Charlie have friendship conversations with Elle or talk about her with Tao as a member of their friendship group. Elle talks about being a bad friend to Tara and Darcy, but her oldest friends are Charlie and Isaac. She acknowledges neglecting Isaac but not neglecting Charlie. Only after ALL the friends learn about Charlie's problem does she then start being his friend again in Tao's video. I dunno, even when I rewatch, Isaac is constantly referring to Elle as Tao's girlfriend. When really the complaint should be: these two members of our friendship group are neglecting us because they've gotten together. Tao did mention in season 2 that him and Elle getting together would change their friendship group. But I'm disappointed that we never see any one to one texts or conversations between Elle and either Isaac or Charlie all of the show. Though, I do love that in the show, her growing to find new friends - female friends and trans friends - is part of her growth. So, her growing out of Isaac and Charlie is natural if a little sad.
@lovemyshelf
@lovemyshelf 21 күн бұрын
I can totally see that and understand your perspective. I think maybe it was hard writing wise to juggle with all the new sides of Elle's character and her arc this season and also make time for "friendship moments" but Idk. I definitely see your point!
@ThatsMyUsborneBook
@ThatsMyUsborneBook 21 күн бұрын
@lovemyshelf I guess Alice really wanted to cement the Isaac/Charlie friendship for both of their journeys this season. Because Isaac is given the Elle/Charlie conversation on the beach from the comics. So there was that one interaction that would have reminded us that Elle is Charlie's friend, too. But yeah, timewise, the lead in to Isaac coming out to Charlie was lovingly done. Charlie's dad suffered a similar fate when his line to Jane about being too harsh with Charlie from the books was given to Tori to grow the Tori/Charlie relationship. It was a shame because I loved in the comics that Julio is more supportive of Charlie and helps him deal with his mum's abrasiveness. But yeah, time restrictions meant that some of our darlings get killed in the editing of the story.

10:40 i think the point about schools like Hillerska is the identity the school gives you - you become a Hillis alumni and are one for the rest of your life. It’s a badge of honour and a place that you belong. In these elite kids' case, they live here - this is their home, for some of them more than their homes with their 'distant' parents. Their friends and these spaces are safe places for them (which is why they brush over the abuses they hear about or receive there - they excuse it for all that they gain being there). Also, from season one, we've had Fredericka elaborate on how exciting all the traditions and events that her mum always told her about are like to experience. Her excitement and joy for being at that school is what most of these kids feel - August more than anyone. Even though he is 'leaving' the school by graduating , this school is his life and probably a home he would like to be able to return to in the future, with his own kids and reminisce the way that the parents on parents day did. Hogwarts school is the only private school in popular culture that I can compare this to. Really awful things happened at that school, but the students were very proud to be from that school, especially when other schools visited and highlighted their different identities. So, yeah, Hillerska is about identity, home, and belonging. It does a lot of their parenting and nurturing (even whilst being abusive at times). It’s not just a school. Having been to a private school in Zimbabwe, I can partly relate to this feeling. Many Zimbabweans I meet for the first time anywhere in the world will have the same conversation: what school did you go to? It usually helps to inform (not really, it's a stereotype) the identity of the person you're talking to, just as much as the city they're from.
