The color I used is Dirty Magic purple from Prismatic Powders, and the base coat is US super chrome, also from Prismatic Powders. The insulation board I used is 1" thick. For my blaster, I am using a custom made blast cabinet, with the 50Lbs portable gun from harbor freight, the gun works okay, but has a lot of room for improvement

I have kxf 250 2013 and it blew up a month ago, the only thing i have done to it since is to drain the oil and it was mixed with the antifreeze. I have zero experience with working on engines and was wondering if i should try to fix it myself and put 290cc kit on it with only the manual and youtube videos. Do you think it’s a good idea?
@ChaseBuiltBikes24 күн бұрын
@@Bojidar023 I am always an advocate for doing your own work, but at the same time, making a mistake can be very costly, and dangerous. Depending on how bad the engine blew, you could be looking at a complete engine teardown. Doing it yourself is up to you and your confidence level. When doing a rebuild, there's going to be a lot of special tools needed, torque wrenches, feeler gauges, case splitters, that are all very important to have, and after adding up all the special tools (assuming you don't have them) plus parts, it may make more sense to have a shop do it. You'll also have to have a manual, to reference torque specs, clearances, and timing. With enough patience, the right set of tools, and a good manual, you can do it yourself. If you plan on starting to work on engines, investing in engine related tools makes sense, just keep in mind, mistakes happen, that's how you learn. Trial and error! But there's always a possibility that trying yourself may end up costing you more in the end, especially with a 4 stroke, so please keep that in mind. What I always recommend, if you're wanting to get into working on bike engines, look for a blown up 2 stroke, and tear the engine apart on that. 2 strokes are significantly less complex, and will still give you the fundamentals of working on an engine. If you make a mistake, it's usually much cheaper to repair.

I'm doing my 2016 kxf 250. I got the head off last night and splitting the cases today. it looks like I have a spun cam lobe, dodgy transmission, and a set of cases to find. It's fun to do, but bloody hell, it's costly, I'm refurbishing my bike over a period of time to ease the pain, but it's not about the cost for me, I love anything on two wheels so im enjoying the process. My advice is to watch a ton of Teardown videos on YT and definitely get a manual, I got mine from Ebay on CD. Good luck.

I’m getting a 2019 kx250 that’s locked up what do you think I’m looking at price wise?
@ChaseBuiltBikesАй бұрын
It really depends on what is locked up on the bike. I would expect always when buying a locked up four stroke, expect to drop at least $1,000 into the bike to get it running. It could be more, it could be less, but it really depends on what went wrong inside the engine.

@mpikas26 күн бұрын
This has to be a regional thing. There is no way that you're getting a frame done for $150 around here. I paid over $250 for 2 sway bars that were already blasted, in a color that he already had, and with a bit of a hookup (I couldn't get that price at most shops. I have a friend who has this guy a bit out of the way who does regular batches of parts that he makes, and my stuff went in with one of his batches). I think when I asked him about a larger minibike frame he quoted me $350. Machining seems to go the same way around here, I keep seeing people say things like "I took it to my shop and they did it for $xx," and again, even with a hookup (I worked for a speed shop that sent a lot of their work to the shop and they consider it doing me a favor) I usually can't get it done for 2x what I've seen quoted online out of the area. At this point, I have a mill and a lathe and have found that there hasn't been much that I can't buy whatever I need to do the machining myself for less than paying to have it done, and if I don't feel like it I've found a shop a little over an hour away that will trade me work for welding work, it usually takes me an hour or 2 to weld what they'll trade for machining and setting up a set of V8 heads.

My worry about making an oven like this is fire. How safe is it really to have heat guns running like this. So far i've got my powder coating gun the RC2 & cabinet. I just need an oven but they're like 1k just for a basic one that'll only do 1 wheel at a time...
@ChaseBuiltBikesАй бұрын
Fire is a concern of mine as well. Whenever I run the oven, I never let it out of my sight. After a couple 30 minute runs with the oven, it's holding up well. Would not recommend to leave it unattended. With the edges taped, the board is holding up well

Hey man great video! I also do my own powdercoating work and what i recently found out. With the cheaper powdercoating systems it helps alot to do a light coat first bake it to gloss and then do a thicker coat over the whole part instead of only the areas you missed it gets you a way smoother finish and harder end result!
@ChaseBuiltBikesАй бұрын
Thank you! I appreciate the tips! Was definitely a struggle trying to spray the second coat, and spraying it hot was definitely the trick. Powder stuck beautifully with the part at about 250 degrees!
