It was whatever the brand they had at Walgreens you're looking for the food grade stuff. That said, I've altered my formula a bit and I'm not using glycerin anymore, I've just doubled the amount of rinse aid and I'm getting a very similar result without the drawbacks of the glycerin going moldy. I will be making a video about this very soon. Good luck and thanks for watching!

As long as I remember to clean as I go, I can get by with just tap water. If I forget and leave it sitting for a day or two, then I use an old gallon jug of Windex complete I've had around for several years. I don't think they make it anymore, but a multi-surface cleaner should do the trick.

@@bryanshobbies I did double the rinse aid to, purely by accident 😂. Probably a good idea to add some fungicidal/anti-algal anyhow, but it surprises me it would survive the tensioactives in the rinse aid that should fill that role well.

I was pondering your video and what you use for the thinning solution. Noticed that you use pipettes for measuring the drops of media into the water. We get 1 ml syringes for pet medication. Thought that might work. Also syringes from the farm store are available...without needle (need a vet's OK for it ). Getting the water, rinsing agent and glycerin ready and "brush up" on my skills.

So bizarre seeing internet modelers using model cement on painted pieces. It doesn't really work at all as model cement cannot form a proper bond with a layer of paint, plus the shiny cement residue is really visible on the painted pieces. Model cement ruins paint, but it's 2024 and maybe things have changed?

I bought some water based acrylic paint at Hobby Lobby. Your YT video overcame some doubts I had. I do have a reducer that has a type of alcohol listed in the label. Hesitating about using it. Anyway, I bookmarked your video and took a photo of the dishwasher rinse so I can buy some!
@bryanshobbies
@bryanshobbies Ай бұрын
Try putting a little bit of your reducer in a cup with some of the paint and see how it reacts. If it's me I normally start out about 50/50 if it's going to cause problems it should do it within about 3 to 5 minutes. Typically what I see is it turns into something like loose cottage cheese.

Hello Bryan. I´m new in the hobby.... what home made product you use for better are flow improver? My issue is my tip is with dry paint?
@bryanshobbies
@bryanshobbies Ай бұрын
Tip dry is going to happen. So far, the best thing I found is to thin your paint just a little bit more and to apply multiple thin light coats to build up opacity. Acrylic paints, whether it be apple barrel, vallejo, or model masters, are made from binders and very teeny tiny particles of acrylic plastic that are engineered to want to stick together. So a little extra thinner well blended into the paint will keep them separated just a tiny bit more until they reach where you want them to go. Whether it be off the shelf or homemade, both thinners and flow improvers will help with this.

for anyone that stumbles upon this, it's important to note that he's talking about WATER BASED acrylics. there ARE solvent/alcohol based acrylics that you should not thin with this solution, but generally you would know if they're a solvent based acrylic because it will have some sort of flammable warning on the bottle/package. it's a great solution for water based acrylics, the thinners are pretty much the same stuff but marked up for being premixed. just don't use it for any solvent acrylics lol. Cheers Bryan

One thing I would recommend is to duct the exhaust sideways so the paint particles that get through the prefilter end up hitting something solid and dropping. That and some sidewalls would make this a lot less messy for people who are stuck doing painting in their kitchen (as well as improve safety from the fan blades)

There are several glues that are much better than the Testors tube we grew up with ( I'm 70 so very familiar with the tube glues.) Which one is "best" is personal preference. Tamiya makes 3 in bottles with a brush and of the 3 I like the orange bottle variety the most, a little thicker and slower than the green cap bottles but not as thick and messy as the tube glue. Testors 3502 is a very good liquid cement with a brush in the bottle. Testors also has a very good glue in a black triangular bottle with a nice spout tip that gives very good control of where the glue goes and does not string. The orange label Plastistruct glue will bond more types of plastic than any of the others (again in a glass bottle with a brush.) My favorites right now are the Revell Contacta Professional in the blue plastic bottle with a nice metal spout and the Mr Cement form Mr. Hobby. The Mr. Cement Deluxe (yellow cap) has a little resin in ti so it grabs fairly quick and gives a good bond even to chrome parts. I get the Mr. Cement at Hobby Lobby. We sell the Revell cement where I work ( an old fashion mom and pop hobby shop.)
