The weirdest thing to a European watching NBA is that sterile atmosphere... for 48 minutes you only hear "DE-FENSE" *doofdoof doof* "DE-FENSE" *doofdoof doof*.... meanwhile the score is 584 to 863, because not a single soul is playing defense! KEKW

You're Playoff Blowout % graph(7:08) looks to correlate with Olympic years. USA! USA! USA! Lower percentage when players are making a case to get selected (2007, 2011, 2015) followed by a spike immediately after.

Great video. I’m not a huge basketball fan myself, but whenever I do watch this baffles me somewhat. The way defenses are static or obvious passes are overlooked in favor of more difficult shots.

i wish you talked about the theory of letting a team blow you out in the playoffs so you don't waste strategies and rest your players. Seemed to happen a bunch in the Spurs vs Heat series a few years ago

I think the world championship has no value to american basketball players because they are always told, that they win the trophy for that in their National League. They win the world trophy in the NBA. NBA! NATIONAL basketball association. 🤣

Um, its because Americans value the individual over the group. Period. "Rugged individuals". "Pull your self up by your boot straps". "That aint my job". "I dont get paid to do that." Anything else is socialism. Moat othet countries believe in the group. Society. Teams. We before me.

Great point, & as well is it why there's some differences with the way US treats others compared to Mexicans where they're more of a set of groups rather individuality?

This puts to words my experience in playing hundreds of pickup games over the last 10 years. I have lost so many games despite having some of the "best" players in the gym on my team. So many guys think something like "im the best shooter here, why would i pass the ball to someone worse". I have won so many games with scrubs simply because everyone bought in to a team first approach; we had to pass the ball because none of us were good enough to win by playing with an individualistic style. If you simply find 4 other dudes that are willing to all play defense and move the ball unselfishly on offense you can lock down the gym for the whole night.

now people realize that there are problems in business, but they think they can buy all the necessary answers and secrets just online. That's why fake business "marathons" are so popular on the web. you don't need to know the business, you don't need to study, just pay a "successful online person" and you will get magical answers. at least in Russia, young people have such thoughts now.

All the handwringing about Europeans dominating basketball is premature for a few reasons. I should start by saying I am happy with the expanding international interest in basketball, and given Europe's large population of the tallest people in the world it is basically inevitable that a large number of the best players would come out of Europe. I am happy to see great players like However, these notions of higher European basketball IQ as shown by FIBA championships is wrongheaded, probably most importantly because America doesn't care about the FIBA, they don't send their best players as you said, and they don't even play by FIBA rules. But most importantly, America isn't doing much worse in the FIBA cup than it has historically. America won in 2010 and 2014, but before that they hadn't won or even appeared in the finals since 1996, and before that they also didn't win between 1954 and 1986. The Olympics will be the real test of how the US fairs in international competition, and we will have to see long term if NBA losses to Euroleague teams in exhibition games end up being meaningful. It should also be noted that not all great European players like Doncic and Gasol are coming from the Euroleague to the NBA, a lot of them like Jokic and Giannis were plucked from more minor national-level leagues. Giannis was coming from a semi-pro league. But with such a low sample size we can't yet say whether the handful of exceptional individuals represent a superior system of basketball compared to American collegiate sports. It remains to be seen whether this is just a case of a larger population taking an interest in the sport.

An undergrad in Finance, Accounting or Economics would be good and save the Business Administration for the MBA......I took Business Administration as an undergrad and wound up repeating the same type of courses when I started working towards an MBA = I was bored to death and bailed! I took an accounting class in high school and got an A+ on the project that we were assigned to work on throughout the class! If I had to do it all over again: I'd do Finance with a minor in Economics and go work for Vanguard and get my CFP on the company dime!

NBA really leaned into a certain demographic that valued flashy over good. They full embraced "superstars" over team ball to the point of even changing the way the games are ref'd to allow for more flashy plays. Good teamwork is always better than individual talent and while the US focused on highlights the rest of the world was playing good ball

“Once the foot makes contact with the ball, it’s a chance event” “Moody’s extra point was a bad kick, you can see bc it comes out low after the kick” So now we’re calling skill issues good or bad luck? Thats the issue with a lot of this. Like if a kicker is literally 100% on the season and he makes 100% of his kicks in a game, that’s “unlucky” for the opposing team?

Super stars (Kobe, MJ, Lbj) will have a lower % because the entire defensive plan would be setup to stop them, so they'll get the most difficult shots. It's no surprise that sidekicks will have the higher percentage because it's likely they got a wide open shot in these clutch moments.
