im gonna take a wild guess and say 4th gen is kinda like inspired by all genres, ranging from pop to rnb to funk to afrobeats. first, girl crush was the concept people were portraying with upbeat edm or pop type music & after awhile, new groups appeared with more genres. most 4th gen groups had produced rnb/soul type shi which i think was what kinda built 5th gen. ofc, not every group has the same genre majority of the groups stick with, but thats just what i think since most of 5th gen are now producing rnb inspired songs.

for a while i was just randomly listening to kpop after hearing gangnem style for the first time, and last year (2023) was when i really started to stan and have biases. i didnt and still dont really have a better understanding of the kpop timeline and groups, but this genuinely helped me understand. plus, i really liked the song mashups they were fire lol so thank you so much for this video 🫶

The editing on this is so ridiculously good, with all of the usual challenges with 'tutorial' videos being mitigated (i.e. not showing examples, not having timestamps for parts of the song, not being clear about describing the intent of each part of the structue)... my mind is blown ♥

right now in this period of time in kpop era belongs to the 4th gen groups. this generation should be lasted about 10 to 11 years before the 5th gen can be a thing. i expected the 5th gen would be initiated in the late 2020s. it's not stable and healthy to rush into a new gen like that.
