How did he become _that_ capable of staying clear and calm in his assessments? Sober, ironically, is probably the best word. I mean, right now, underneath me, some semi-literate commenter is jabbering about how such-and-such was a commie, and I'm tempted to fly off the handle with a lambasting that would go right over the head, anyway. I really, _really_ need to take a cue from Hitchens, and learn to better self-modulate.

Wonderful! A moving speech that I have forwarded and treasure. But just one little thing:At about 5 minutes: "...because what he has to say must have taken some effort to come up with..." That I call into question. Bullshit is frequently the result of minimal effort, maybe even a default response. So we must consider Brandolini's Law of Misinformation Asymmetry.

The West, is a multinational society yet, instead of supporting enlightenment values, we are, as a group, demonstrating that we are deeply misguided. We are willingly relinquishing the most cherished values of our society without a struggle, even going so far as to commend those who seek to deny our right to defend them. This alarming trend not only persists but gets worse,, demonstrated by a growing fervour and conviction of Westerners eager to reveal just how dreadful we all are.. Furthermore, the West is actively showcasing its self-loathing to the world. It's nuts. We pathologically blame ourselves for past colonial actions, overlooking the fact that these supposedly 'peaceful' cultures often seek to suppress free speech and individual expression. They demand unquestioning conformity and threaten severe punishment for dissenting views. This is hardly equitable. They advocate for medieval style retribution, yet we cower in submission, terrified to speak out. Even worse, we actively praise the regressive and barbaric beliefs of those who would gleefully plunge us back into a bygone era of darkness. Western society is fucked up at the moment, but we will come out of it. I just hope it's sooner than I expect."

Are there no lines at all? Or is there is a better “fire in a crowded theater” rubric than Holmes’ came up with upon which the drawing of a such a line could be justified. Speech that the intelligent and discerning will take as just that, the expression of an opinion, can become a rallying cry to the uneducated mob.
