Rare beat from a rare beat tape which some refer to as "The Questlove Tape" or "The Lauryn Hill Tape". I make no money from this channel. Support the J Dilla foundation.

idc what anyone says dillas hands down had the best drums in the game. Literally every beat i have heard from this man has different drums that snap. Most producers would reuse drums (kanye, college dropout) this genius made it look effortless.

I think Dilla just chose drums that matched the sample instead of having favourite drums and trying to use them on every track.

@@keithprice1950 i noticed he started doing that when he met madlib, you can hear it a lot on the motown tape and donuts, using drums that dont stand out as much but blends in with the sample. He wanted you to focus on how he flipped sample and not so much the drums, thought they were still good. He had his signature reverb snare he used in the late and early 90s but even that snare he mixed up so it would always sound different in a mix. You can tell he was very meticulous when it came to beats and drums.

When i started producing it was because of "don't cry." And ever since i learned so many things and one of those key things is to have swing and also make new drums any chance you can because so many producers now a days just re use certain drum patterns and it gets repetitive. And ever since ive taken everything in, i can just hop on my mpc and make a beat and feel that groovy feeling
