11:29 this was the critical moment. Army was a tough fight to get, you needed 6 resources for 2 devs and hope for 2x knights just to catch up as he was on 6 knights already if not 7. Once you have mono for security and you draw the 2nd vp you are on 13 points. You have resources for city in hand (port wood sheep and wheat for ore) as you are locked out of settlements. The city gets you on 14. After that you have devs for extra vps or a quick settle on 10-8 for win. Gg love the content.

@ZzZ-qd1zo10 күн бұрын
That second game was rough, but I think you have to take the 5 6 11 over the 3 4 8 and deny them any wood brick sheep spots.
@alinbacanu911125 күн бұрын
Dude game three was in your bag so easily. But you 4 for 1 to draw a dev card instead of blocking him access to any wheat. If you did the same trade 4 for 1 but to build 2 roads and block acess to any other wheat besides 11 you have the game. He has no popping power so army and everything in the deck are yours to take in the future.

Game 2: You should never port the brick for the city. The moment you lose road you lose the game.

That's a good point. I definitely put a LOT of road materials into that city that probably would have been put to better use on the board.

@SchloopityАй бұрын
Yeah, sometimes you have to play a risky road, but I already had the settle in hand that turn 😬 I tend to be really bad at hand tracking, but this highlights the importance of it!
@tagcoins1Ай бұрын
At 13:13 you are deciding to port to save for city. You need one wheat and two ore. Better to port for ore because you have three rolls to give you the wheat. Then you need a wheat and ore, not two ore which is much harder
@SchloopityАй бұрын
Good point! I should have also considered that the 6 ore is the most common block as well, which is another reason to port for it. 👍

2:24 You should always port your wheat for a wood here. If you 7-out it's probably gg.
@tagcoins1Ай бұрын
Yeah, I saw that one too. So much wheat production. Ship it off!
@SchloopityАй бұрын
It's a worthwhile moment to look at. The wood is a reasonable choice as a single 10+(6,8) after would have won us the settlement race. But I really liked porting the wheat for the ore and getting a city on the next turn. I think that early city on the 8 5 10 really propelled my game forward. But I agree that it was risky to hold the wheat then, and could have been better to port that turn.
@alexandernater6284Ай бұрын
6:19 I often hear this "multiple sources of wheat" argument and quite often it shows a deeply flawed understanding of the game like in this case.

Second game, I think you should have considered 942 for your second pick. You have the same road building (wood) as the 643 start, you guarantee yourself a spot on the 9 ore, and you have no contest to get on the 643 as your first expansion. Just need to roll a 5 for 1 wheat.
@Kal-ReegarАй бұрын
Just got on to say this. You guarantee the plow and 2 massive settles, it’s not really even close in my opinion.
@ZanderJamАй бұрын
Yeah 9 4 2 mena you definitely would have been a good pick, but as the dice would have had it, you won anyway 😉 @maxanthony1384 makes a very strong point
@SchloopityАй бұрын
That's a good suggestion! I didn't really look at it because of the production, but starting on the nine and having the 643 as a first expansion probably would have been better! I hope you enjoyed the video and thanks for the comment! 😁

The first game feels like a game I would lose too but not understand why lol. The only mistake I see is settling on the ore port instead of 6/9/12 at 12:00, since you're never porting ore away in that position, but it ends up making no difference.
@connerklass1368Ай бұрын
I see what you’re saying, but I actually think the game losing mistake was going for the 3:1 port which cost him road long term. He had so much better road building he needed to secure those points

30:00 Big mistake not to get the last knight. Now you allow your opponent to take robber control and keep your 8 wheat blocked.

I believe the better placement in the second game is the 8/4/3 double wheat pointing inwards. There are three wood brick starting road combos to give you the cut if they try to race and plenty of opportunity to build to sheep.

12:15 "Terrible, terrible starting placement on my end, but I don't know what else can be done here." Hi Schloop. Thanks for uploading these games, but let's be honest, this phrase is a contradiction. You can't say that the starting placements were terrible, unless you can point out a better starting setup. At that moment you didn't know of a better setup, so it was entirely possible that your starting setup was perfect. I've seen many other Catan content creators doing the same mistake, of attributing a bad outcome to bad initial placements, although they have no idea what they would do differently if they had the chance. I think that admitting the real cause is too painful, usually numbers not rolling, unlucky dev picks, bad board for the first player etc, so they prefer to "own" imaginary mistakes that they did not commit. I am pointing it out because this type of commentary helps no one to improve their game, and it's not particularly entertaining either.

Good persistence on the first game. 4:56 After the 11 rolled you could have YOP for 2x brick to cut them off the 6 5 12. Well played games overall.
@Schloopity2 ай бұрын
Thanks! I definitely could have dropped the 2 roads to block, but with how rare my wood was, I was trying to save resources and just get the road settle on the 5 9 12 to block them instead. In the end I didn't mind sharing the 5 though. I still vastly outproduce them on ore, and that ensures that the 5 never gets blocked. I ended up using the YOP to get on the port, and I was pretty happy with that :)
